To answer a couple of major questions:

1) We're at 82 participants. We'll keep the entry form open through Sunday and then cap it there. The goal is to get to 96. If that's the case, we'll have the last 48 signups compete in an initial round. The first 48 signups are then already in "round 2" (the round of 64).

2) I've had questions about using secondary characters. You may enter secondary characters at this point, but they will likely ONLY BE USED if we actually get to a full bracket of 128. I'll make a final call on that after we see where we end up.

How would a secondary character work, in regards to the handler then being eligible twice for the cash monies?

Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :(

Chad, even though, I am in the top 48 - I agree with this sentiment - suggest that perhaps you and the committee of judges reconsider my idea of triple threat matches with the losing party (the wrestler who is pinned or is made to submit) being eliminated and the two survivors moving into the field of 64.

Plus, that would only put the bracket at 72 (48+24winners) unless you were doing triple threat matches anyway (48+16winners)... Just curious as to how that sets up as well.

For the record, I wasn't disagreeing with Chad's idea, just cursing out my bad luck. Top 48 get a free pass. I'm sign up 49. Boooo.

Yep apologies. I meant to say that 33-96 (64pts) would have first round matches. I personally would like to avoid triple threat matches. Easiest solution is to get to 128. Regarding the question about multiple characters and prizes -- those participants would have to do twice the work, plus they're guaranteed to have to be in the first round. We won't double up prizes. Obviously more to finalize once we know how many participants we end up with.

Suggestion: If the field goes to 96, perhaps those who get first-round byes need to be determined by something more than just who signed up first. Possible ideas:

* Those who have competed in past Ultratitle tournaments, particularly those who advanced far in such tournaments, could get first priority for the byes. (EDIT: Some other criteria could be used as well, such as current champions in FWCentral feds, current champions in feds outside of FWCentral, or other notable accomplishments.)

* A simple random draw of names from a hat could determine who gets the byes. Since I'm assuming that names would be drawn to determine who faces who, the process could work like this: First name pulled gets a bye, then the next two pulled face each other in the first round, and repeat that process until all first-round byes are determined.

Perhaps an exception could be made that anyone who signed up the day after 64 was surpassed will not be eligible for a first-round bye, but anyone else will.

Just trying to think of a way to mix it up rather than necessarily doing an arbitrary cutoff point.

I think limiting the Triple Threat to the finals would work just fine - as that was one of the initial suggestions made. No?

A random draw is more arbitrary than a logical cutoff point. Give this thing another week or two and it might just get to 128.

I am okay with being a play-in. If seeding is based on perceived ability (as in NCAA basketball), then by all means, make the odd people out (the very bottom seeds) play in. Hopefully secondary characters can be the evening-out points.

You could do a group stage maybe, like in Champions League. Then like the top two or three from each group (depending on how many groups you make) could go through. Or do a round where everyone has a qualifier and 96 cuts to 48, then do 8 groups of 6. Then you get the top two from each group go through to the round of sixteen!

Given the scheduling issues with 96, I'm strongly leaning towards going up to 128. I'll put in jobbers to make up the difference. Otherwise, the 32 with byes have to wait until round 1 is complete. We're doing random seeding, so if you get a jobber, good for you. You still have to drop a roleplay, or lose embarrassingly to a CS jobber who hasn't wrestled in 15 years.

I won't lie. The thought of turning this into a WORLD CUP styled tournament made me swoon.

Maybe I'll lease the damn trophy again one day.

Okay, World Cup. Champions League, whichever you prefer. The setup would be perfect for it if we hit 96 though.

Actually at 96 entrants....

to use byes.....you would have 32 byes and then 64 guys facing off for the other 32 spots in the 2nd round.....

Mathematically, anyway.

You're right. I corrected myself earlier in the thread. :)
