VOICE: I must say, TEAM, I'm a little disappointed.
(We fade up on Stylin' Kyle Roberts, former NAPW tag champ, former REBEL Pro World champ, sitting on a bench in one of Raleigh, North Carolina's many parks.)
KYLE ROBERTS: You know, I accepted my invite into the TEAM Invitational because this is where the big boys play. Top guys from all feds, whether it's Lindsay Troy, Dan Ryan, me, hell, even Ravager. Yeah, yeah, last rounds tantrum about being a #3 seed might not have been my greatest moment, but neither was facing off against Masked Monkey IV. Sorry, I should say (Kyle finger quotes) "the British Bomber." Oh, he bombed all right. Right onto the mat with a good ol' Emerald Fusion.
But I came into this thing expecting some competition, some actual fights. Screw this whole Final Four seeding, you know what happens when you send a rookie into the ring against me? Well, what happened to the British Bomber. (Kyle stage whispers) I hear he's actually South African!
But so imagine my surprise and delight when I heard that I'd be facing Dez Carter in this round. Dez Carter, a true competitor! Former NAPW Pure Honour champ! Semi-finalist in the Canada Cup! Master of the awesome sleeper hold, the Go 2 Sleep!
I'll admit, I'm sorta looking forward to this. Dez is good stuff. And I don't think I've ever faced him before. But I'm not even sure if he realizes what he's getting into this week. Because my whole intent in this tournament is to win. Not place, not show. Win. It's something I'm focusing on. Because right now, in REBEL? I'm not winning so much. This is to prove to myself that I still have what it takes to compete, that I'm not a wash-up at the age of 26. And if competing with the cream of the crop and winning is what's going to get me back in the right mindset? Bring it on.
Now, TEAM, don't think I'm being ungrateful. I enjoy being shuttled around to places like Seattle or Stanford. I always love seeing new places. But if you keep on giving me matches like this, I don't know WHAT I'm going to do. No, wait, I'm going to coast to victory.
So, Dez, do me a favour and bring what you've got. I want to see if the accolades from NAPW are deserving. I want to see if you're the man that defined Pure Honour, or if you're a former champ because Andrew Rossi made you a one-time champ because you truly don't have what it takes.
Because if you DO bring it, then my trip to the TEAM Invitational will have been worth it, because I'm beating people worth beating, not because they're British and love Bombing.
(Kyle stands up and jogs off as we fade to black.)
