I'll tell you I'll be buying GTA 4.

I'll tell you I'll be playing it Tuesday afternoon.

I'll tell you I have an Xbox 360.

Gamertag: khele2k for anyone with similar aspirations.

I know exactly what you mean. I bought a 360 last summer just for this game. At the time it was supposed to come out in October. I've been studying almost non-stop and every time I lose focus all I can think about is GTA 4.

I'll leave thoughts when I take a break after about nine solid hours to promo against Duchess.

yup.

I bought my PS3 w/ this game in mind, also. every game I have bought since then (last month) has been a placeholder, heh.

picking up my copy when I scoot outta work.

god bless Brunk for (unintenionally) scheduling this "break" for when he did.

;)

Someone please help me understand why something like GTA4 which glorifies the degradation of women by slapping them, hurting them and having sex with them (further degrading them as prostitutes) As well as, trying to murder most everyone in your path is such a monumental thing and gives you a stiffy just by waiting for the game arrival?

Is it really entertainment? Just Wondering. Cause I'm not getting it.

I watched The Soprano's, and eagerly awaited each episode, as much as I enjoy/anticipated this game.

the game is NOT ABOUT slapping women. it's not even about "murdering innocent people", per se. the media always glosses over the vigilante aspects. you play the game however you want. surf the fake interwebs. watch the hours of fake in-game TV.

you only "murder everyone in your path" if that's how you choose to play the game. freedom.

you don't hate freedom, do you? ;)

I just don't get how this game and it's theme's are much different from any of the stuff on TV, in movies, or theme's from other video games.

btw, graphically it's incredible. the physics engine at work is unmatched (imo) and the story is engrossing. *I* am entertained.

take care,
Paul

Bought the game today...well more like "legally stole" it with trade-ins today.

Got it for the 360 and officially my had my life go in the ****TER!!!

BTW it helps when you go to trade games in and one of the sales clerks there is a nice looking woman that makes you grin uncontrollably and you have about two bags worth of XBOX/X360 games and an EDGE card to add to the trade in value! I had about 80+ dollars in store credit and bought the game and the Strategy Guide and still have 6 dollars plus in credit.

The game is a very fun game and I never liked the series before this game so this is going to be grand!

I'm glad you mentioned why I enjoy the game AI, because its not the degrading women or killing everything that's fun for me (seeing the physics when people get hit by cars is nuts in this one though, but they're not real).

I was at 98% completion though in Vice City, and I beat San Andreas several times. So, I'm a big fan of the franchise.

I think my favorite part of these games is the level of quality gameplay Rockstar puts into the games. The missions are my favorite part though. I remember particularly in Vice City the one where you ride the motorcycle across building rooftops. Also the mission that's like Heat where you rob the bank. In San Andreas, I really loved the mission where you steal the jetpack, and the one where you race with the hovercraft, then the go cart. Also when you have to swim underwater to get to the freighter, then fight the samurai.

So I guess its the wow factor, and the diversity of the challenge the missions bring. Every car handles differently, let alone four wheelers and jets and speedboats and dirtbikes. You never know what's around the corner in literally every mission. Then its not just a shooter or a racing game or a rpg or an action adventure.

Like in the new one, just getting 4+ wanted stars and trying to lose that wanted level is a huge challenge. Juggling relationships while doing missions is tough, but rewarding when you can use those people you meet to help you.

I guess what I'm saying is that you can play the whole game and it doesn't get repetitive. You're always doing something different that you didn't see coming at all. This is the fourth game in the series that I'll undoubtedly beat and already there's been so many new aspects to the game that no mission feels like its a repeat of any mission in any of the previous games.

Can you pick up prostitutes and get lapdances in the game if that's what floats your boat? Yeah. But let me try to put it in perspective....

There is stats for everything in these games, there's a % complete for everything from missions to stunt jumps to shooting hidden pidgeons. If picking up a prostitute counted as part of that % completion, it would be less than .25% of the total. I just think you'd be shocked at the detail and diversity of the games. It's really like nothing else on a video game platform.

final follow-up from me on this subject:

-- most unique missions the series have seen thus far. balancing all of the relationships w/ the main NPC's is a challenge, but always fun.

-- yes, you can drive drunk in-game. but having tried i can attest that it's NOT a good idea. oddly enough, taking a cab home is just as nauseating a ride.

-- the character of Niko Bellic is layered, deep, yet open to interpretation. the FACIAL EXPRESSIONS in this game tell the story. the emotion. better than anything i've seen in a video game before.

-- gameplay is good. what you'd expect, only turned up a notch. those new to the series will possibly struggle w/ some of the driving and/or some of the game concepts - but veterans will settle in quickly.

-- what i've played of multi-player is ridiculously fun. i should say, however, that i've played four minutes of "deathmatch" and hours upon hours of "freemode". myself and one other kid in particular have made a habit of finding creative ways to end our characters life; jumping off a skyscraper into the blades of a waiting helicopter (that the other guy was piloting), hitting a jump at full speed in THE fastest and fiercest car in the game .... into a waiting, hovering helicopter (i piloted THAT one :) ), those just scrape the surface of the insanity.

-- the over-the-top, anti-conservative political slant found in nearly ALL of the "comedy" found in the in-game media (TV, billboards, radio, etc) gets old quickly. seemed a LOT more balanced in previous game incarnations - taking little shots at BOTH ends of the spectrum. maybe i'm nuts, but there IS no balance in this game. very noticable. and very dull over time.

for the sake of full disclosure, i'm nothing NEAR a "conservative" and normally get a kick out of Colbert-style humor. if *I* find it grating, it's GOT to turn off most gamers who hold "conservative" values. odd business move.

...of course, it doesn't seem to have harmed sales at all :)

I bought GTA4 for the 360 and returned it a week later. Felt like GTA3 with better graphics, a nice little black and white death movie, and new weapons (not really), but yeah... wasn't worth the wait in my view. I'll stick to Halo and Call of Duty.

I only got this on the 360, and don't have it hooked into the interwebs.

Does anyone else like Katie as much as I do?

I'd verb her noun in a heartbeat.
