{the light goes on in a single bed hotel room somewhere. the room is the standard fare. single bed, with the uncomfortable scratchy blanket on it. the single desk, looking slightly worn. the touch sensitive lamp with the green top. a duffle bag is thrown onto the bed and a set of keys onto the desk. 'the messenger' trevor cane walks by the camera, glancing ever so fleetingly at it, and takes of his jacket, placing it on the chair. he puts his hands on the desk, and rests there, looking down at the menu. he doesn't turn to the camera as he begins to speak}

the messenger
"i never thought i'd see jean rabesque's face within thirty miles of a new show after he unceremoniously dropped the world title to the phantom republican. but i guess greed makes a man overcome any odds to get what he wants. how fitting that he'll have 'the messenger' to respond to in his first match back. greed is an ugly characteristic. i know. i was once full of greed. i did not know it at the time. i thought the world was my oyster. until i realized the side effects from eating it. and i'm not talking about the increased libido."

{cane looks over at the alarm clock on one of the end tables next to the bed. 8:40. he nods slightly and turns to the window. he pulls on the shade cord, but it comes off into his hand. you can hear a sigh as he tosses the cord into the waste basket.}

the messenger
"jean was living the same high life that i was living when i gave it all up. you were on top of the world, weren't you? staying in much better hotel rooms than this place, right? getting rentals that were more than the chevy aveo i have for this trip. but the difference between you and i is just that. i gave it up. i did not have it taken from me. we know what you want, jean. you come at the very end, sneaking up behind the phantom republican, and attack him. you will probably come out here and let your pride get the best of you, forgetting that i am the man who will be stepping into the ring with you while you ramble on about how you are going to get the world title back around your waist."

{he opens up the drawer of the end table and takes out the gideon's bible. he looks at it, and tosses it back in, shutting the drawer.}

the messenger
"man sins. it is a fact that we all cannot help giving into to our lust at one time or another. monks spend their entire lives trying to live without pleasure, without desire. ultimately we all give in. i'm guilty of it as well. but jean, you seem to indulge more often than not. you let the desires of life run yours. you let the darkness of selfishness hide the real treasures. the bahamas epitomize man's selfishness. and in the dusk, as the darkness starts to descend once more, jean, i will show you the light. it is up to you to decide whether to give up your hedonistic ways. it is up to me to help you make that decision."

(A black screen)

(The screen remains black, and an ominous voice over can be heard, the same voice throughout this entire piece)

V/O: “Many great superstars have passed thru the New Era of Wrestling.”

(CUTTO: Bright white words: NO FALSE GIMMICKS)

“Many men have established themselves as true superstars in the wrestling business.”

(NO FALSE HYPE)

“But only one man has proven for more than a decade..........

“To be the very best!”

(JEAN RABESQUE)

(CUTTO: Immediate shots of Jean Rabesque, first executing a belly to back suplex, followed by a Northern Lights Suplex, a belly to belly, and a DDT. CUTTO: Various opponents tapping out to the Figure 4 Leglock. These images span Rabesque’s entire career, we see him in his earlier days in the NFWA and the AFWC, we see him battling it out in the FWF, we see him raising title belt after title belt)

“A man that was crowned the NEW World Heavyweight Champion.”

(CUTTO: Rabesque defeating Larry Tact in a ladder match, grabbing on to the belt, and falling to the mat as a jubilant crowd can be seen in the background rejoicing. CUTTO: Rabesque clutching the belt like a child. CUTTO: Rabesque celebrating with the fans at ringside.)

“A man that carried the title well over a year.”

(CUTTO: Quick snapshots of Rabesque’s title defense, several more suplexes shown, several more men tapping out. Several shots of Rabesque’s hand being raised in victory.)

“And then a man that simply.......

Disappeared.”

(CUTTO: Rabesque being pinned by GOP. CUTTO: GOP celebrating up the aisleway. CUTTO: Rabesque downtrodden in the middle of the ring.)

“They said that age had caught up with him.”

(CUTTO: Rabesque taping up his ankles. CUTTO: Rabesque in obvious pain in the middle of the ring as he attempted a powerslam.)

“They said the competition had caught up with him.”

(CUTTO: Jonathan Marx dominating Rabesque in the ring, followed by shots of Rabesque losing the CSWA Greensboro title, and losing more matches in different federations.)

“They said it was time for him to quit.”

(CUTTO: Rabesque’s last spot in NEW, with him taking his gym bag and leaving the arena for the final time)

“It was the end of an era...........”

(BLACK SCREEN)

“Or so we thought.”

(CUTTO: Rapid fire montage of Rabesque training and sparring, done in black and white. You see him running, jumping rope, practicing amateur wrestling moves, and lifting weights, all in rapid succession (OORP: Think Kurt Angle’s TNA videos, sorta). The different clips accelerate in speed until they become just a blurring light, until the camera FREEZES)

(EXTREME CLOSEUP on the face of Jean Rabesque, who looks as if he’s about to speak)

RABESQUE: “..........

(Rabesque just snickers out of the right side of his mouth)

(White Lettering: NO FALSE GIMMICKS)

(NO FALSE HYPE)

V/O: “New Era of Wrestling......

“The champion has returned!”

(JEAN RABESQUE in bright lettering, the fade outs into the NEW logo)
