Long known as a historian of emus and FW, you can sit down with this man over a tall glass of absinthe and hear such soliloquies as "Eh."

Feel free to ask Mr. Russo about knife stabbing techniques, Shirt Tails and exactly how much Chad Merritt's toupee cost him in 1997.

Oh yeah, he's RP'd some characters like Impulse, Poison Ivy and some crotchety old man named Eli Flair over the years.

Is there any chance Impulse would consider joining a joint NFW/MCW stable, and would that stable include Monkey with BIGGER~! Stick?

No. Impulse is a fan of the underdog, therefore he would only want to join up with Monkey with Stick. Monkey with BIGGER~! Stick is a dominating heel who holds the other monkeys down and beats them with his stick.

Stick.

Has there ever been a moment in NFW, where you read something and said, "Thank god that wasn't my character."

...if so, which one and why?

There is only one answer for this. Who Wants Tea?

If you're not counting the obvious, then no, not really. From a character standpoint, Eli Flair was very happy to avoid the Demolition Derby, but from a handler standpoint, everything else was pretty much in stride.

What was your goal with Impulse? Didja do it?

Also, Katz has evidence that I guessed your identity after Katz went "you REALLY don't know?" and i went, "if I had to guess..." and named ya. neeners. but before then, i'd never considered it.

you were the only person i could think of off the top of my head that would create an idealistic character and stick to it.

peen.

My goal with Impulse was to see if I could run a character completely anonymously and be successful at it. That was literally the only thing that I had in mind when I started talking to Katz about it. I knew I wanted to run Randall Knox b/c he's the only idea I've ever come up with besides Flair that lasted past two weeks. (Dez is a separate entity and does not count)

After that it was coming up with a reason for him to wear a mask - because if Ivy found out he was wrestling without her knowledge he was convinced she would kick his ass.

Everything else about him was an on - the - fly decision. The non-cheating thing, the non-punching thing, even the RP style, was all just a natural evolution.

So he didn't start off as an idealistic character, his 'presence' just flowed that way and now it's really the only thing that makes sense.

Also, peen.

To touch on the 'idealism' aspect of the character. I think that also evolved in my head as a way to build him up as a strong face for NFW, which is hard to do considering today's FW/eW environment. Most faces still want to act like jackasses and smack their enemies in the head with a chair for no reason.

I remember that being the case in my head for the house show match, in which he demanded he get disqualified instead of getting his first victory via someone else's interference.

From that point on, Pete formulated the Impulse Rules of Engagement...and I've regretted my actions ever since. ;)

All kidding aside, Pete ran very far w/ that ball...which in turn, made me excited to book him in specific feuds/matches.

Now I have a title for it besides "Rules for writing a match with Impulse involved" which doesn't look good on a T-shirt.

And his dream opponent would be Evan Aho. Man of few words, but limitless technique.

Thinking about it I should have figured it out before the reveal lol

If the inevitable Eli Vs Knox match happened which battleground would you prefer? FWO? NFW? or a best of series emcompassing both?

Eli is retired, so it's not going to happen. And no, he's not coming out of retirement, ever. And if he ever appears on another wrestling show, he will not be wrestling.

But if it did, it would have to happen in the CSWA, with Bill Buckley and Sammy Benson calling it. Every bit of PBP I've ever done anywhere else has been an homage to that team because it's my absolute favorite.

Any advice on writing a female character? (Since, obviously, Ivy's the best female character ever, and it's something I haven't really been able to do.)

How do you envision Eli Flair in retirement? Done with the business completely or willing to take a job as an announcer or even join the convention circuit, signing autographs 'n ****?

I can't tell if you're serious or not. ;-)

Honestly, just don't be stupid. Ivy's had her best growth from 2001 to now and I really just looked at all of my friends who are girls and, knowing there's no such thing as a typical woman.

Her temper, her drinking, her stubbornness, her diet, her contradictory relationship as it relates to Triple X and everyone else in her life, are all based on someone I know in real life.

Other than that, drawing a clear distinction between Poison Ivy and Ivy McGinnis helped. You mentioned 'female character' - but what really helped me with Ivy was getting inside the actual woman's head, not the character she plays on TV.

Dunno if that helps, but...

1) What have been your characters' favorite NFW matches/moments?

2) What was Ivy's feelings about Miles/Mayfield hugging it out after she had to ref that sadistic portion of their final match?

3) Where's Manson vs. Hornet? I'm still waiting on it...
