With the posting of BattleBRAWL 3 within the next hour, Season 1 comes to a close.

We're moving into a 5 day "off season" where I will fine tune the rules, catch up on RP Feedback, and recruit for Season 2.

What did you think of Season 1? Any suggestions on how to improve? Rule changes you'd like to see?

I'll take everything into consideration.

-- ALSO --

Please use this thread to sign up for Season 2.

Thanks again for sticking with me for this experiment .. I'm looking forward to Season 2 .. I hope you all are, too. :)

BattleBRAWL 3 will be up in a bit .. feel free to reserve feedback until you read the premier event.

I sort of wish the RP cap for the Cyberstrike shows was increased or eliminated, it sort of feels that once a lineup goes up, I have to wait until the day of the deadline to RP so I can have an RP to work off of and I sort of miss having a good back and forth with an opponent directly.

Storylines and angling... Season 1 was really awesome. Enjoyed reading the cards and watching things unfold. Cards got posted fast, and things kept moving along. Maybe a little TOO fast.

If there was a major criticism, there was a LOT of ambiguity on roles. It was obvious for prominent characters like Hart and The First, but not so much for others. For example, I honestly can't tell if Chaos is face or heel... if he's face, why is wreaking unnecessary having on the federation? If he's heel, why is he feuding with ANOTHER heel like the Druid?

In terms of federation operations, the one-RP rule was good in theory, but not so much in practice. What that meant was that when I was really motivated and posted an RP early in the week, my opponent had a good three or four days until deadline to pick the entire RP and generate a response that I couldn't respond to. Granted, I won those matches... but really felt like I lost a lot of the arguments, cause I really didn't have the opportunity for rebuttal.

Understand, I don't offer these criticisms as a means of cutting everybody down for a lot of hard work and effort put into what I think is a very successful season... but since feedback was requested, those are my immediate reactions to how things progressed.

As for Season 2... please count Robert Ryan Strawsma and his characters OUT.

This has nothing to do with what was stated above. But, if my performance (or lack thereof) at BattleBRAWL left you any indication, I am extremely burnt out on e-fedding right now. Given a lot of my real life commitments (and habits), I usually don't have many evenings where I have the time (or the sobriety) to get any work done on an RP. Add that to the fact that for some reason I insist one writing 10-page epics for EVERYTHING... and maybe you can understand how I'm getting worn out on doing this in not just one, but four federations.

Honestly, if I can't commit to you guys 100%, I shouldn't commit to this at all. I also want everybody to understand that this isn't New ERA exclusive -- I am going on an indefinite e-fed hiatus from all federations I'm in as of right now, with the exception of A1E, where I have a pretty obvious obligation with Rocko Daymon as a World Champion to get through before I can close the book there.

Hopefully, without the stress or burden of having to write, I can take more time to do what I REALLY want to do with this hobby, which is read the work of others. I want everybody to know, I'll still be visiting the forums and giving my feedback. As a participant, though, I think I'd rather just sit back and watch things happen.

Thank you guys for a successful Season One. Good luck on the follow-up.

I definitely enjoyed the first season. I think having the sign-up sheets early on was a good idea, and I was sad to see them go (especially with week 5), but other than that I think everything went well. The 1RP rule definitely made things more interesting and ensured you had to get it right first time which was a nice change of pace, and I don't think it always benefited the person going second.

Oh, and Mr. Entertainment will be hanging around. He's got a lot of building still to do :p

* Tact Feedback

I enjoyed Season 1. I thought the recap cards didn't take away from RPing, and in fact, the format helped emphasize how the long-form BattleBrawl was a special, premier event.

As for the 1-RP limit, I think it worked fairly well. Like Karl said, it was challenging to have to get it right the first time. However, I would suggest a 2-RP limit for Season 2, because I also kind of missed having the back-and-forth. I think raising the cap to 2 will still retain the quality that I felt a lot of the RPs had in Season 1, and also add a little something extra with the opportunity to retort. But it won't be repetitive because you'll still only have one chance to respond during the week to what your opponent has said. Also, it may prompt getting the first RP up earlier in the week. Lastly, 2 RPs still won't present a big committment of time, for either the RPers or fedhead. :p

I liked the sign-up sheets, as well. Wouldn't mind seeing them return, and the RP feedback.

RE: ambiguity in roles, for myself, I treated Season One as an experiment for my own writing. I've never written a character with a dedicated manager, so it was somewhat challenging week-to-week. And while I knew I could write Tact as a heel, I've never written Fanatic as one before. Ultimately, I found I'm probably most comfortable writing Fanatic as a 'tweener or babyface, at least for now.

Speaking more to the overall ambiguity, though.. one side effect of not having long-form shows might be having less defined faces/heels, outside of the Main Event. The two ways I can think of to prevent that are for people to submit more in-show mic spots/angles for their characters, and also to have the announcers do more in defining the characters' sides during the show recaps. That would help make it clearer in who stands on which sides of the line.

All in all, I felt this was a fun season, and I liked the quick pace. With speedy turnaround, you can feasibly have angles that spill over into the next season, because people will remember what happened before. A storyline that does that could seem "hotter" because it couldn't be resolved during one season. And I just enjoy having the consistent RP cycle and turnaround. Takes me back to the 2000s! :p

As for Fanatic, he will be storming the ranks for Season 2. And Tact will stick around, outside the ropes, too... unless he tells me otherwise.

Apologies for missing battlebrawl! Work kept me off line all week.

I thought Season One went great. I agree with others that two roleplay limit would work best. There were so many times I wsih I could hav responded!

Montgomery is in for Season Two. I want to see if I can improve!

One thing that might work (even though it's a bit more work for you, Sean) and would encourage more on-card participation if you stick with 1 RP as the limit for Cyberstrike is to have the 1 RP be in a Digest format - instead of the RPs being posted on the board, they're sent to you, and all go up at the same time. Then give everyone a day or two to respond with on-card segments if they wish.

It'd probably be better moving to two RPs a week, though.

This might be late and all, but I'd say that my big change if you wanted to make one, would just be to allow whoever posted first to have a quick 'rebuttal' Rp, like we have 2,000 word limits on the opening Rp's, but whoever Rp's first has a 500 word reply allowed to their opponent.

Firing first is usually a disadvantage in Rp'ing, your opponent has something to nitpick and counter, giving the person who goes first a chance to reply to their opponent gives people an incentive to Rp earlier, so we're not all throwing up crazy buzzer beaters.
