First up, introductions. Hi! I'm Aaron! I haven't been into efedding in years. I spent a lot of time in SCCW back in the day (first as Sean Sterling, then as Victor Ambrose), but ended up stepping down due to life happening and a lack of interest in the roleplaying-based format. Either way, long story short, I recently got the itch to give this whole thing another go, half out of a genuine need to write and half out of a recently reinvigorated interest in wrestling as a whole. So, here we go. Also, full disclosure, I applied to LoC with this character as well and am currently in the application process there. I know efedding circles are small and I don't want this to be seen as a sleight of some sort. I just really want to write and fully intend on playing in both feds, that's all. If this is somehow a problem, it's no big deal and I'm not going to make a big kerfuffle about it.

(Also, just to note, I know you guys don't have any openings right now. That's totally fine. I considered applying as a tag team, but that's not something I've done before and I don't think it's a great idea to try to get back into this hobby with completely uncharted territory that I could very possibly suck at. I would, however, love some feedback and possibly future consideration.)

Handler Information

Name:Aaron
Email Address: aaronjwild@gmail.com
Best Way to Contact You: Best choice is PM or email, but I do have Skype as well.
eWrestling Experience: SCCW, a few small feds, and I THINK that I had a match in PRIME during a tournament, but I may be mistaken about that.
How did you find DEFIANCE? FW. This is the first place I visited when I decided I wanted to get back into the hobby.
Are you willing to write matches? Yes!However, as a warning, it's never been my forte and I'm a bit rusty to boot. I will, however, be willing to work to make any matches I write as interesting as possible.

Writing Sample
I figured it was a good idea to just write up some fresh samples. I put together a quick segment and match along with a very short storyline under the idea that Pop is leaving the indie company he's always wrestled in (Williamsburg Wrestling Association) for Defiance. This is in no way representative of his actual storyline coming into the company and is entirely just to give an idea of how I write. Enjoy!

Ring Name: "Post-Modern"Elias Pop
Nicknames: El-P, The Icon of Irony, The King of Nonconformity, and That Guy With the Stupid Mustache

Height: 5'8”
Weight: 195lbs.

Hailing From: Williamsburg,Brooklyn

Alignment: Heel. But seriously, he's not so much nefarious as he isinsufferable.

Gimmick: Simply put? Total fucking hipster. Seriously, this is the type of guy to bring out vintage vinyls as weapons in a hardcore match. He'll ride out to the ring on a fixie bike AND build his own tables out of reclaimed wood to drop people through. Personality speaking, Elias is well meaning, but ultimately too annoying and too ego-centric to be likable. He thinks that he genuinely knows better than the general populace and wants to provide the fans with something authentic, something real, something conceptually sound and artistically admirable. Problem is, he comes off like a pretentious jackass(which, in all fairness, he is).

Wrestling Style: Culturally Appropriated Lucha Libre. Long story short, Elias grew up looking up to the cruiserweight high flyers, your Rey Mysterios and your Juventud Guerreras. Not only did it have the wow factor that seemed to be missing in your typical wrestling match, but it also seemed like something 'new' and so far removed from his own culture as a middle-class Jew growing up in one of the most heavily gentrified New York neighborhoods. Thus, when he began to train, he did his best to be a luchador. The problems with this, however, wereabundantly clear. 1) No luchador would take a pasty white kid who couldn't shut up about Radiohead seriously. 2) He refused to wear a mask as he deemed it 'cultural appropriation'. 3) Everything about this love of lucha libre growing up was a lie and the entire idea to go with that style was an ironic decision based entirely off his first viewing of the Jack Black comedy romp 'Nacho Libre'. Thus, he faked it, Americanizing the entire style to suit his own skill.

Three Weaknesses:
1) In his quest to be 'authentic' and 'real', Elias has managed to paint himself as a pretentious asshat. Living in the bubble of Williamsburg, he often forgets that nobody really gives a shit about his music recommendations or that he knows more books than they do or that he gave a back rub to Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. His inability to keep his mouth shut and his opinion to himself can often lead to misunderstandings, confrontations, and even fistfights.
2) He's spent most of his life living off of a trust fund. He tries to keep this secret close to his chest at all times, worried that it will somehow lower his 'authenticity' and 'aesthetic'. As a result, Elias doesn't know the value of a dollar and often reacts with anger when someone brings up his upbringing. This sore spot often leads to an easily bruised ego as it puts the one thing he actually cares about in jeopardy: his coolness.
3) It's highly likely that he sees wrestling as an art project, an ironic pastime, a way to differentiate himself from the masses, or all of the above. His commitment to the sport, despite his talent, is questionable at best. This indifference can often times lead to him missing matches due to finding something better to do, showing up under the influence, and worst of all, blaming everyone but himself for not holding up to his end of the deal.
4) And as a bonus, he isn't traditionally strong. He's not going to be doing much heavy lifting or anything he deems too hard. Fucking millenials, right?

Three Strengths:
1) Despite his personal failings, there is no denying that Elias is one hell of a wrestler. He's almost always the fastest person in the ring, capable of dodging incoming attacks and fly from literally one side of the ring to the other when he jumps off the top rope. What he lacks in strength he more than makes up for with high impact, precise, agile moves.

2) Like most successful hipsters, Elias knows social media and he knows how to market himself. While this doesn't necessarily make people like him, he knows how to get ahead when he wants to get ahead without jeopardizing his own terms, especially when going against those terms would hurt his authenticity or cause him to be viewed as a sellout by his peers.
3) Thanks in part to his willingness to get into a debate with anybody about anything and his damn near savant level knowledge of obscure topics, Elias can often talk circles around people. This pairs well with his inability to shut up. He often lays in bed, going over made up scenarios in his head and compiles a stockpile of verbal ammunition, making it near impossible to leave him at a loss for words.

MOVESET

Ten regular moveset moves:

1) Spinning savate kick
2) Enzuigiri
3) Running dropkick
4) Monkey flip
5) Somersault leg drop
6) Hurricanrana
7) Tiger feint kick
8) 720 DDT
9) Springboard moonsault
10) Suicide dive

2-5 trademark moves:

1) The Williamsburg Hustle – Springboard leg drop
2) Cruelty Free Missile – Missile dropkick from top, sometimes corner-to-corner
3) Free Range Fuck You – Sitout facebuster
4) Bombs Over Brooklyn – Senton bomb
5) Mary Shelley's Frankensteiner – Ironically, this is actually a bulldog from the top turnbuckle and not a frankensteiner at all. Fuck your expectations, cuz.

1 Finishing Move: 2C4U (Too Cool For You) - Avalanche shiranui from top turnbuckle

I want to say we're already too full up but damn son. Writing sample posted in a google doc, writing sample formatted in the DEF style, already on Skype. I'm compelled to say yes and stuff one more on the roster, fuckin' thunderdome this next arc with as many quality writers as possible vying for spots with their best most creative stuff. Lets do this shiz.

Good app, good attitude, great writing AND match samples, excited to write. I say yes.

(really good match, by the way)

Yeah, Dan and I had a discussion on Friday about Reinhardt vs. this guy and I like this guy's concept much better.

I have to be honest, we really are full-up for singles spots right now. There is one person I know of who is supposed to be applying with a singles character only as a means to team up with a singles character we currently have on the roster, and then we'd be closing apps 100% entirely to tag teams also.

I want to waitlist you but maybe this would invigorate Mister Evan into getting some more BRAZEN shows working. Would you be opposed to writing there for a bit with this guy until we can work you into things? I'll also talk to the rest of the DEFstaff and see what they think about that idea.

EDIT: I'm interested in who ran SCCW when you were there, since both Sean Sterling and Victor Ambrose are vaguely familiar to me.

This is a character our announcer Angus can really love to hate. An enjoyable app with a writing style that isn't far off from DEF's and a willingness to write matches, all checks out to me. And I'm glad that you recognize our full capacity and still submitted your app in a respectful way, willing to wait for your chance if need be. I can definitely tell you want to write.

You've got my tentative yes from me if a spot is to be made for you, bud, which I hope there will be, even if it is just writing BRAZEN pieces for a little while.

Thanks a lot, man! That means a lot, especially for the match. Like I said, I've never really seen myself as being all that great of a match writer.

I'm glad you dig the concept! I totally understand that you guys are full and, like I said, that's totally fine. I'm fine with being waitlisted or being put on BRAZEN. Honestly, I'd be down for just about anything.

As for who ran SCCW when I was there, oh man. It's been half a decade and I'm terrible with names. My first run there was while it was still called FUSE. I want to say a guy named Dean was running things? Seriously, I'm reaching there. Second time through was right as it was transitioning over to being SCCW. Third time, with Ambrose, was a short lived run when they had a tournament for a match against the then champion, Aimz. My history may be totally off. Either way, Sterling was your basic narcissistic asshole and his entire character kind of harkened back to The Asylum of old. Ambrose was essentially Hunter S. Thompson as a wrestler, drug addled and out of his mind.

Thanks for the vote, man! Like I said, totally down for whatever, be that BRAZEN or otherwise.

Yep, I know Dean, of "Fuck you Dean, I hate Dean!" parody infamy.

Oh, you were in tA too? Pete (Impulse) was there as Dez Aragon.

During the FUSE ---> SCCW transition I think Duncan was running it? Then it went over to Ron Sago/Joe O'Toole. Then....I'm not sure who had the reigns after that. Maybe Mike Renner? It slowly faded away, though.

Yep! That's the Dean I remember.

Oh no, I wasn't in tA, just super inspired about by it when I made Sterling. I followed it like crazy when I was in the small feds (followed fWo as well). I had to be like fourteen or fifteen. I remember Dez, Villam Ender, Borst... Seriously, you're unlocking a treasure trove from over a decade ago right now.

I THINK it might have been Joe who was running things when I left. Oddly enough, I can remember his SN on AIM was something like Circle of dust. That's the guy who was running things, but I don't recall him being heavily involved. But seriously, the run with Ambrose was MAYBE three months and I had a lot going on in real life, so I may be off. When I looked back a year or so later, PTC had closed, most of the feds were gone, and SCCW hadn't been updated for months. I was kind of curious what happened.

I remember the name Victor Ambrose definitely from when I was whoring myself out in PTC 10 years ago.

I know I'm new still so not sure how much weight my opinion carries yet but I enjoyed the sample and like the fact that you've done your homework and are willing to be adaptable.

The fact that you are applying to LoC too I see as a positive actually - it shows you've really thought about angle fedding over RP fedding and are committed to giving it a go.

Would be a yes from me if applications opened again on singles - maybe next arc?

You get a yes from me based on enthusiasm alone.

I knew playing the enthusiasm card was a good idea. Oh shit, wait.

I'm glad you remember Ambrose! Short lived, but that was probably the most fun I ever had writing a character. Who'd you play back then?

Also, thanks for the yes! Next arc or otherwise, I'm pretty hyped up.

Yes from me based on being a fan of Dez Aragon.

Fuck yes. I'm glad that 13-15 year old me's opinions and interests still have an effect more than a decade after the fact. :p Seriously, though. Dez was awesome.

I vaguely remember Ambrose and Sterling from PTC, so that's a thing.

Going by the application and your interactions on the board thus far, I think you'd be an excellent fit for DEFIANCE. Your enthusiasm is off the charts and you've shown a willingness to work in BRAZEN if needed, which shows flexibility and patience. Both things are huge plus marks.

The character sounds good, too. I love the idea of a sickening Williamsburg hipster running around DEFIANCE and the fact that you've not only written ab original sample, but done so in our specific formatting, speaks volumes.

It's a big yes from me.

I'm all on board for adding another handler who's willing to do whatever they can to help make things work. But the hipster character needs to be good and evolving or else it'll go stale. Lots of things you can do - for example: the trust fund runs dry and he's basically committed to DEF wrestling to earn money.

Hey man, thanks for the feedback! It's pretty surprising to me that people are remembering Sterling and Ambrose. Anyway, I'm glad you liked the app!

I totally agree. The joke would get old super fast if there was no evolution to the character. Thus, I have a few ideas to keep him from going stale. Things like the trust fund running out, him being faced with the reality of adulthood after living in a protective and cultural bubble, and so on. In true hipster form, I imagine he'll also constantly be looking to 'reinvent' himself to follow along with the latest trends. Alternatively, after a terrible setback, he could regress back to the pasty depressed emo kid that lurks under the surface of every hipster I've ever met. If he's particularly successful in DEF, I could also see him worried that this will affect his 'authenticity' and attempt to actually stay on the lower end of the card to remain non-mainstream.

Of course, those are just off the top of my head and nothing is set in stone.

I love the enthusiasm too. I like the fact that you are willing to work on BRAZEN to get your story going. Yes from me.
