THE RUNDOWN
Jurassic Park line is great. What can you really say? This provides all the pertinent set up needed rolling into the card. Evan always does an outstanding job and this is no exception.
The attack was a nice touch. As if Natas/FDJ needed anymore heat, for what is clearly going to be a knock drag out fight.
SCOTT DOUGLAS VS. FRANK PASTORE
Wrote this with Jerald.
SHADY
If Jimmy is involved there must be some fuckery afoot. This came off as a good tease to the very type of business the title implies. Paz comes off a little more commanding and in the way I remember her being written years ago, but Perfection wasn’t in the room. Around him she definitely plays different. Intrigued on how this will play into the match.
PCP & KENDRIX VS. VIKING WAR CULT
“Hollywood McFuckwits trios of losers.” “...goddamn cream-in-your-pants jizztastic.”
PCP and the SEG in general, fantastic delusional heels. The Klein bit was great. JFK build up was fantastic. Only complaint, not one “innit,” yeah. The VWC entrance made them look strong to say the least. After a long intro I expected their entrance and the jump off of the match to be rushed but it was still paced well.
Opening was good tag action. Double team moves and such. The Stomp Tags were entertaining. Seems like something that would really piss off a wrestling based crowd. Nuclear option call back was nice. JFK comes off super strong. VWC all the look physically strong seem to get a little bit of the little brother treatment which I suppose is apropos being BRAZEN. Match was a little tough to follow at times, and I had to double back. That may be more of ineptitude rather than the writing. Or just the fact it’s a 6 man tag. All I can say for sure is some of the action seemed long in fast moving points that made it tough to keep straight in my head what was going on. Still a good match though and a logical to this arc. JFK sticks out the most, through this entire arc, and in this match that maybe there is some growth there and although his ideals are still well rooted in Sports Entertaining, he is gradually leaning more toward actual wrestling.
IN THE END
Love the dry wit or Spock like answer, “win.” Good guys have to win. In the movies sure, in pro wrestling this hints at some possible implications of the opposite.
PERFECTION VS. CODENAME: REAPER
Entrances were short and sweet. I think further into the card I would have really appreciated that, but this early in they came off a little shy even for TV. With that being said, Reaper making a normal entrance rather than his normal black out entrance, it seems like he wouldn’t waste much time getting down to the ring.
Now, this is more of a question and not a judgment but because maybe I’m doing it wrong.. But Angus calling technical wrestling a borefest, and not long after droppings the “obvs” seems a little out of character for me, being that he hates SEG. I guess the wrestling thing could be explained that he is more into the HOSSFITE and maybe the “obvs” was satirical. Maybe I just explained that away. Who am I to judge I called Jack Hunter, SUPERBEAST in my match.
Anyway, I do love Angus’ utter and unrelenting hatred for Perfection. The Shields stuff played well and started subtle but ratchets up quickly. Perfection was super heel as he should be. The match itself played out well and I think both come off well in the action. Perfection gets his just do but in classic heel fashion figures out a way to snake his way into a win. The whole Shields thing adds an extra dimension to it but it leaves a lot of questions as to what will happen in the fall out of such fuckery.
GOOD GUY ISLAND
So, it’s lemonade? Good clean fun here. A hope spot for a card that has been all heel thus far. Great placement.
JASON NATAS VS. FRANK DYLAN JAMES
HOSSSSSSSFFFFFFIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEE! From the first bar fight to the match and even the opening of the show, this has been a fast building but well laid out beef. Not so much a feud as a beef that looks a little like a wrestling feud simply because a title is involved. I expect brutality in the first degree. Also I feel like the commentary laid all this out perfectly and even walking into this card cold there would be no mistaking this was a hardcrore street beef. Great match, very entertaining and held my attention the entire way through. Also, being a Natas fan walks in, I’m glad to see him retain the title.
REAPER(S)
Much like Paz, Terry Anderson is no longer the man he used to be. Ran down a bit by the doings of assisting Reaper. This segment raises a lot of questions about Reapers future, who is the true target, will he continue with the detour of Jimmy Johns and who the hell is Terry looking for? Good stuffs.
ANDY MURRAY VS. BRONSON BOX
Much like Natas/FDJ this was an amazing build up and expected nothing less from this. The backstory was laid out and built up so perfectly. Backstory faked or not , it was laid out and played out immaculately. War Drums link, amazing. After listening to Radio its tough to say anything about this that wasn’t already said, but … I will say personally I enjoyed this match and though it is the sum of all pages … ever. It’s highly readable. I never got lost and only break I needed was based on shitty eyes and bright screens. I honestly expected the AM to go over and was surprised to see the reign of the hell continue. The post match fall out was well written and played well. HOT Squid!
RISKY BUSINESS
Quick seg. If I haven’t said it before I love phonetic spelling for Box. Box is clearly pissed but is it really over betrayal or the fact she’s right? Good seg, ties in Box/Katze and Penn/Katze.
MIKEY UNLIKELY VS. IMPULSE
“DDK:
Is that totally obvs?
Angus:
… I’m not above slapping you”
Possibly lending credence to my above comments about the Perfection/Reaper match. I think also there was a DDK mention of BRUVs somewhere and a negative response from Angus.
Anyway, The Cally bit with Angus and DDK was nice. Is it bad I would 100% watch Crow’s Alley? God, I love Westerns. Westerns and Quantum Leap. But especially Westerns. Mikey has definitely stepped up his wrestling chops as of late, must be all the stunt training and FRAPPES! Really expect Impulse to have this one in the bag and take the title. But Mikey and the Hollywood Heritage title lives to piss off the Faithful another day. Can’t wait to see how he spins this one to save face.
LOCKED IN
Cayle’s mindstate and continuity here. Not much to say except it plays well and leads into the match.
CAYLE MURRAY VS. CURTIS PENN
I liked the opening salvo from Penn and for it to be cut short by Cayle should give this match a little more anger from Penn who seems to have enough for no reason, but being strictly a competitive finish to a tournament without any real heat … that at least gives Penn an extra little chip on his shoulder. I enjoyed this match, and again it just seems to be the night of the fuck over … why stop now… Penn with the tights seems to be as appropriate as possible. After Cayle has risen so far since DEFCON, I honestly thought he may take this one, so it will be interesting to see how he emerges from this loss. Actually all of Good Guy Island as it were, with the exception of Natas, who maybe be damaged but came out on tippy.
DAN RYAN VS. LINDSAY TROY
“Goddamn CURTIS PENN... “ Love the continuity leading into this one. Ninja stars. Like a muthfucka. That last match would be hard to live up to and I don’t know if I can say this did but after a long night of every heel getting over this was a great and satisfying pay off. And at the hand of submission at that! That being said this was super short in comparison to some of the earlier matches. Granted, I just view it as a PPV that ran long and producers in the back are calling for the early finish and then it works for me. But for Troy to take the title it does seem like something bigger should happen… Like the Good Guy crew limping and bruised coming down to the ring to champion their nearly one and only victor of the night they toasted previously. But I’d imagine there is something of the sort in store for Uncut.
GENERAL
Good card. As stated above some things felt long and others too short. Certainly felt like a heel night and my input didn’t do much to change that. This felt less of a blow off show and more of a keep watching shit … just … got … crazy, show. Which I can’t say is a bad thing. Enjoyed it overall. I give it 7 out of 10 Dan Ryan copyright symbols.
