JONATHAN MARX: Where ever you are, I want to wish you a Happy Birthday 100th birthday to the Gipper! While our political views may differ, you were a great American and you helped to bring an end to the Cold War.
Sometimes I don't recognize this world that we live in anymore. Things have become so politically charged. We don't know who or where the enemy is anymore. In the old days, we could all unite in hating the Russians and if Russia ever did anything to us, we could simply bomb Russia.
Things aren't so simple anymore, but thankfully my opponent lives in blissful ignorance wherever he may be and hasn't gotten the message that the Cold War is officially over. Sure, we have some smoking hot red headed Russian spies like Anna Chapman still scattered around the country trying to get secrets here and there, but in large part, we are at peace.
I may be liberal at heart, but as long as there is one Russian solider out there trying to bring down America, the cold war isn't over. This Alexander Roslov is a threat to all that we hold dear and it is my duty as an American to stop him once and for all as a present to you on this, your 100th birthday.
The eighties almost seem like yesterday, but it has been over twenty two years now. The debate still continues about who is more bangable, Scarlet or The Baroness, and I can still turn on my television and watch Autobots doing battle with the Decepticons. There may be Back to the Future and Ghostbuster projects in works, but make no mistake, yes, the eighties are technically over... but...
For one night, for you and everyone else who grew up in my generation, I will turn back the clock. But I can't do it alone, I'll ask for everyone stand up and get behind me and their country, because united as one, we can do anything. I'll put the red, white, and blue over my shoulder and lead the fans in a “USA” chant. Then when the fans are on their feet, united as one, I will make Roslov tap out and I'll point to the sky to give thanks for all that you have done...
LETS WIN ONE FOR THE GIPPER!
