The minutes turned to hours. The hours turned to days. The days, to months.
The room now barren.
My fingers fumbled against the wall as bits and pieces of the past flashed, even if for only a fleeting moment, before my eyes.
I wrapped my fingers around the switch, the smooth plastic consoling my broken heart. There was no resistance. No pushback.
The lights went out.
With a muttered sigh, the shirt sitting heavier on my back from the midday sun, I stepped from the room and softly closed this chapter in my life.
