Reflection: Determination.....

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Aug-17-03 AT 02:00 AM (EST)]Fade in: to a cubic-shaped room inside an apartment. The room has some familiarity, as it was seen once previously. The wall opposite the door has various promotional ad posters, for wrestling as well as other product ads. The wall to the left has a trophy case pushed against it in its corner, although it isn't half filled yet. The right side wall has a few cabinets, one open and containing some video tapes stocked in it, although there is plenty of space left to be filled. The door side wall has a collection of pictures lined one next to another on the wall, taking up a section of it. Larry Tact sits on a stool in the center of the room, looking calm and facing the wall of pictures. He has on a sleeveless, blue leather zip-up shirt, black leather pants and boots. His bleach blonde hair comes down at earlobe-length, in spikes around his head, a few obscuring his olive green eyes as he looks at the camera.

Tact: As GLCW passes its first year of being in business, I offer my congratulations to Scott Malec. He has made plenty of decisions, some shrewd, others no-brainers, but all generally good for business. And that's what it comes down to, isn't it? Doing what's good for business. Even having King Krusher around as the 'safety patrol' has been good in some ways, none of which is security. (chuckles) But really, he has provided good incentive....I mean, people despise him, and I suppose that contributes towards getting people motivated around here. I personally think he's been somewhat of an annoyance, but....he's still around, so I suppose he must be doing something right. I guess keeping Lady Veronica safe goes a long way, doesn't it..?

Tact smirks.

Tact: However, business is moving and Malec keeps sending me checks -- and more importantly, giving me matches -- so I'll stick around. As I move into my seventh month in GLCW, I'll keep on doing what's best for my business...and that means keeping prepared and focused for matches. In Wisconsin Dells, I went and showed that I was more than prepared for Jarod Poe. I thought I'd remind him about the events of his match with Morgan for the TV belt, while I went out and gained my retribution. We're 1-1-1 now, Poe. And in Joliet, we'll get back in the ring and have that tag match. But after that, our little series will be put on hold...for the time being. I'm sure we'll pick it back up sometime, but for now, I'll do what I always do. That's set our series on the shelf, and move on to the next block. Win or lose, I can't dwell on any match result for too long. But I won't forget it, either. That wouldn't be very...tactful.

Tact grins wryly and then leans forward a little, propping his elbows on his knees and clasping his hands together.

Tact: From Joliet it'll be off to Champaign, and another Riptide event! Looking over the cards as I do, I've noticed this one is quite significant. Not only are we heading towards another Pay-Per-View, but we are in a new era of competitiveness. Yes, just as I've always spoken of, I see the improvements in GLCW. The Jobber, sluggish for a while...I even heard some rumors about his retiring. But he's shown every jack*** that thought he was 'losing it' how wrong they were. He has plenty more left in the tank, and it's good to see that, since he's putting on nice little clinics each week. It goes a long way, having some good wrestling shown from other people around here, let me tell you. But don't think of this as some sign of respect or praise...cuz it really isn't. It's just a nice lead-in, cuz Jobber recently showed some of that good wrestling to the person I happen to be facing at Riptide.

Tact sits back up and crosses his arms over his toned, sturdy frame, his expression one of mild curiosity.

Tact: I'll admit...I haven't heard all that much about you, Cameron. Sure, I know of your history in GLCW, and about your entering the new season in NFW for the Ultratitle. I know you're one of the younger guys with a foundation being built. (nods) You've got a future in you, no doubt about it. But Cameron, tell me this....when do you want that future to start? You can only have that foundation built up for so long before you look for more. You look with a hunger that you didn't previously know....a desire that just isn't satisfied with making it in and out of that ring. You start wanting to make an impact!

Tact cocks his head to the side, lips pursed.

Tact: So do you want that, Cameron..? Do you have the determination to take that step? Not everyone does. But...I can help you to make that choice. See, you're going to hit a fork in the road at Riptide...think of it as having reach a crossroads. At that time, you'll step into the ring with me. But, Cameron...(frowns)...I am not letting you start on the road upward at Riptide. Not in our match. Because I have a road to travel too, y'know. And, well...I'm no longer the type to let others pass through on my time. So there's good news and bad news, Cruise. The good news is, you're going to learn something from this match. You're going to learn how close you are to taking that next step, and find out just how determined you are. The bad news, though, is that it's going to be a painful...learning...experience. Cuz I don't hold back for anyone. I keep my performances top notch, and at this time I'm in prime form.

Tact stands up from the stool and walks over to the wall of pictures. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a thin piece of paper: a picture. Tact then presses it against the wall of photographs, sticking the newest picture on, then stepping back as he speaks, the camera capturing him from a side profile.

Tact: I'm going to put you to a test of your skills, Cameron Cruise. I know you've beaten such men as Jared Justice in the past, which means you do deserve to be here. But now you're going to find out what you need to be made of, to overcome someone with wrestling skills that are good enough to compete with those at the top, and still improving. I'll make sure it's a match you will find...memorable.

The camera heads around Tact and views the wall of photos, with many headshots of wrestlers from all around. The picture Tact posted up was one of Cameron Cruise, in a section of photos seemingly dedicated to wrestlers Tact has faced in GLCW thus far. After Tact turns around, seeing the camera is still filming, he raises his arm, making a slicing motion across his throat. Fade out.

RE: Reflection: Determination.....

(Fadein, Cruise's den, Cruise in a corner room lounge chair, relaxed. Wearing blue jeans and a white sleeveless-shirt, he brushs hair from his face.)

CC: Flattering really, to be labeled as "one of the younger guys with a foundation being built." I've been in the business along time Larry, and to tell the truth, any other man would take that as an insult. Me?

I could care less.

However, then you start preachin' about bein' Hungry for wins and cementing a foundation in this sport as someone to be reckoned with, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

It's confusing to me really, what you're trying to imply yourself as. One minute youre blessing Scott Malec and Krusher for the work they do, and the next you're tryin' ta school me on the benefits of having a job like this and what I might be able to do...not to mention trying to give a promo as my opponent at the next show.

I've been there and done that Larry. I've had my @$$ kicked by Hornet. I've been stretched while taking Eli Flair to a Time-limit Draw. I've out-strategized big men like Jared Justice and Troy Windham. Hell, I just got beat in a dog-collar match by Shawn Mathews, the other day.

Point being, ya win, ya lose. Ya get over it. Ya move on.

I don't need lectures on what can happen for me in the future. Right now, I'm MAKING my future. The Boss himself, and I'm not talkin' about Steinbrenner or Bruce Springsteen...called me up and asked me to help him out with the organization.

That not only says something about me, but since you've apparently been here longer...then that also says something about *YOU*.

You don't hold back for anyone?? Great pal, that's really good. Because if ya did...I'm damn sure there might be other guys in the back who might wanna take a swing at 'cha who actually *GIVE A DAMN* about giving it there best.

You're right though, at Riptide, Larry Tact and Cameron Cruise are gonna go head-to-head, and it's gonna be somethin' ta remember at the end of the year.

(Cruise taps his watch)

The countdown is already going...Gametime is comin' and I'm ready to play. My question for you Larry is....

(Cruise stands up, straightening himself from the lounge chair, reaching for his sunglasses on a nearby coffee table.)

Are you?

(Cruise taps his watch once more before walking out.)

Cool rider....

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Aug-23-03 AT 00:48 AM (EST)]Fade in: to a shot of a small, barren parking lot. Almost barren, that is, as we pan over to find Larry Tact, dressed in black leather pants, boots, fingerless gloves, and a blue t-shirt with "Simply Tactilizing" written in gold cursive on the front. Zooming out some more, we see Tact is leaning against a metallic blue, neon green, and white Kawasaki motocycle. Tact has a frown on his face as he looks at the camera with his olive green eyes, and his bleach blonde hair hanging down to his ears from his head, neatly kept out of his face. His voice drips with sarcasm as he speaks.

Tact: Cameron Cruise, nice to hear from you! I know you must be real busy....oh yeah, what with the NFW and all the calls you must've been getting from promoters for someone of your ability, right? But so gratiously, so humbly you chose to come grace GLCW.

Tact pauses and drops the sarcastic tone in his voice.

Tact: I must say....I think I might just have been wrong about you, Cameron. Maybe you don't deserve to be here.

Tact crosses his arms over his chest, still frowning.

Tact: Who do you think you are, huh? You think you're some tough sh** because you went toe-to-toe with Eli Flair? You think you're something special because you took an *** beating from Hornet? You think overstrategizing JARED FREAKING JUSTICE is any sort of accomplishment?! You're dead wrong if you think so! I'll give it to you straight and narrow, Cruise....you don't suck. But you do overestimate what you've done in your time. And yeah, you're right, you're making your future. That's just another way of saying you're building a foundation for what you will do in the future. You aren't there yet, though, oh no. And it isn't because you haven't faced me, or beaten Hornet, or done anything involving opponents. It's because you're just not able to accept your place. You don't want to go through the phases like everyone else. You want to be 'special.' You want to skip through, and you think you have a right to do that because you've been in the ring with some names. Well I'll tell you right now, Cruise...you're headed for a very rude awakening.

Tact pauses and looks up at the sky. Then his frown slowly curls into a lopsided grin as he looks back forward.

Tact: And you think I was COMPLIMENTING Malec and Krusher? 'Blessing' them? (laughs) Look, Cameron, I don't beat around the bush. I thought Malec's been doing his job, that's all...y'know, since GLCW is still open and all? As for Krusher...I was just having some fun. But everyone knows the guy's a joke. The rowdiest crowd he's broken up probably consists of some drunks that were hitting on Lady V. But you don't have to think about any of my comments pertaining to those two. You just keep your ears open to what I have to say about you, cuz that's all that matters in the end...you remembering what I said now, when you're down and done on the canvas at Riptide.

Tact smirks and uncrosses his arms, walking around the Kawasaki and leaning down, resting his arms on the seat.

Tact: I don't 'preach,' Cameron. I just put my thoughts out there for people to hear. You can make what you want of them, but I assure you, I'm not trying to get you on some bandwagon. I'm not Johnathan Marx. (snickers) Just the same, Cruise, if I were you I'd work on those listening skills, cuz you don't seem to hear that well, and whether you take me serious or not, you should hear what I have to say. Am I ready? Why don't you go back and listen to what I said before you made your...(sarcastically)...'long-awaited' entrance. Sorry if you were too busy going over your NFW performances, and hardly making a point out of it while stroking that ego of yours. One of these days, you'll find out that being a little humble can keep you from getting that beating of your life. Then again, maybe Hornet already took care of that, and you just didn't learn anything from it? Yeah, that would make sense....

Tact chuckles and straightens his posture, keeping fists on the seat as his expression becomes more serious.

Tact: Don't worry, though, I'm not going to give you a beating. I think it'd be much more enjoyable to humble your ***...cuz Cameron, you definitely need it. However, I won't humble you by pummeling your cocky carcass. That isn't my style. Instead, I'm going to do it the way I learned best...by plainly and simply outwrestling you. And I'll show you just how far you really do have to go to reach that future you're making. I will humble you, Cameron Cruise, and I'll do it by making you succumb....to a tactful surrender.

Tact grins maliciously and picks up a shiny, metallic blue helmet. He holds it under one arm as he glares at the camera.

Tact: I know you want to play it cool, play me off as no big deal. You're one of those 'cool riders,' right? This is just another match that you'll go through, then move on from without a second thought? Well that's going to cost you, Cruise. You obviously haven't been around long enough, because otherwise you'd know it's smart to always remember your mistakes, and learn from them. Presently, you're making a big mistake in not considering me with the same seriousness as Eli Flair, or Hornet, or any of those big, shiny names. But you'll see...come Riptide, you'll see real clearly what I mean. And afterwards, Cameron, maybe you'll think twice about how much you should admire what you've experienced so far. Just maybe...you will learn something from this. Our match won't be one remembered at the end of the year, Cameron. Not by anyone except maybe you, if something sinks into that thick skull of yours. But it'll be too lopsided to be remembered by anyone else. However, there's one thing our match will be, Cameron, and that is....

Tact looks down at his t-shirt and then back up with a smile.

Tact: ....simply...tactilizing.

Tact puts the helmet on over his head and swings a leg over the Kawasaki, starting it up. He then kicks off and speeds out of the parking lot, turning onto the road and heading off down the road. Fade out.

Crash and Burn...

(Fadein, Joe's Brewery, Chicago, Illinois, late night. Cruise is seen facing away from the camera, sitting down in a corner booth. Dressed in black jeans, a Metallica shirt, and a 5 O'Clock shadow, Cruise downs the rest a beer and calls for another. Bringing it over, bartender also produces a closing check, informing him of closing time. A cameraman taps on Cruise's shoulder, causing Cruise to give a slight jerk around before recognizing the man he called to meet for the promo.Fade out.)
----------------------
(Fadein, the seat opposite Cruise. Cruise brushes out hair from his face, giving a quick smile.)

CC: It never ceases to amaze me, the significance of my being here affecting everyone around the lockerroom the way it has. However with you Larry, you obviously have a hearing problem yourself, because I've said it 3-4 times before.

(Cruise takes a drink of his beer, putting it down.)

CC: The....Boss....asked....me....to....help....him....out, plain and simple. I didn't come here like you did and ask for a job, I was called here to help make examples out of incompetent others who are barely able to make it themselves. Do I mean you? Not at all. Jobber? Obviously not likely. Does it really matter name-wise who it is? Not really. The fact of the matter is this Larry....I'm here to do something, for the boss, and for me. As far as that goes, when the job is done, or the boss feels I dont make the expectations he sees....I'm outta here, got it?

Now...think again about my deserving to be here and ask yourself this question:

Does Cruise really give damn about what I think?

(Cruise takes another drink, setting it down.)

Now, as far as Hornet kicking the tar outta me....if you *REALLY* paid attention....it was *me* who gave him the about-face in his attitude about things, so-to-speak. It was *ME* who made him take himself aside and pull himself together. So, in essence, I *WELCOMED* the @##-kicking I got.

Now, as far as you not being taken seriously, you sir, could not be anymore wrong. Maybe it was me...but when I said that I went toe-to-toe with Eli Flair, it's because Eli *HIMSELF* has made it to the top of the mountain on more than an occasion in the CSWA. Flair has beaten Hornet, Eddy Love, Kevin Powers, and a few others at least that have been forces to reckon with on ways to the World title. So for me to be able to take him to a time-limit draw not only says what I can do for ability, it CEMENTS it.

You're in the top 10, last I checked, in the organization. That more or less makes you pretty important to me at Riptide Tact, so do me a favor and cool your jets.

Nothin' else but to simply *OUTWRESTLE ME*?

I dare you.

(takes a sip of his beer, tone of voice changing)

Strike that, I double-dog dare you.

(another sip, voice getting more bitter)

Screw that...

(downs the rest of the bottle, breaking it over the table, shocking the bartender)

It may be abit obvious right now that I'm abit tipsy Tact, but the simple fact of the matter is this (Camera temporarily zooms in):

Not very many people outwrestle me, let alone challenge me the way you did, but I'll tell ya what, pal. You beat me and I'll shake your hand and we can do this again, in an old-school match somewhere else down the line.

But don't ever do that again. I've said it before Tact. I ain't got a beef with ya personally.

Personally, I just want to go out there and see if I can beatcha.

Maybe I can't....I'll live. Then again, maybe I can find a way to do just that. Get over it, move on.

If you can't....then maybe that's just something of a reality check for you, that you just...won't....like, period.

(Cruise gets up, grabs his jacket off the coat rack, pays the bill and apologizes for the bottle, leaving the bar.)

Fadeout

No mercy for magazines.....

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Aug-25-03 AT 11:41 PM (EST)]Fade in: to a blue backdrop with the GLCW logo in neon green. Larry Tact stands in front dressed in blue workout pants, a black tanktop and sneakers. He has in his hand a rolled up magazine. Tact looks at the camera with a plain expression.

Tact: So Cameron, I see you want to try making things clear, eh? Set the record straight? Well you only dig that hole of yours deeper and deeper. Man, you think I'm going to be impressed or something by your comments about Hornet and Flair, and the CSWA? Well I'll throw this one back at you...do you think Larry Tact doesn't have an idea of what Hornet and Eli Flair encountered when they faced Cameron Cruise? Do you think Larry Tact has failed to look over what happened? And do you think Larry Tact cares about the 'affect' Cameron Cruise had? I felt that you should know you sounded like a jackhole before, with your comments, so I remarked about what you said about your matches. But with these latest comments....you just make yourself sound even MORE conceited! MORE full of pride -- pride that blurs your perception. You're all huffed up with pride about your matches with them. I've never seen someone so happy about being BEATEN to a PULP! Although for some reason, people don't seem to mind getting beaten by Hornet. It's more like some sort of twisted honor. But then, I actually do know why. I know why you didn't mind. It's not because you caused him to rethink anything. Heck, I bet he didn't really rethink anything because of you...maybe he wanted to make you feel better about yourself. Hornet hasn't been around so long as he has to have his thoughts reordered from anyone else's thoughts but his own. I'd wager he doesn't give a CRAP about what you, or anyone else thinks, deep down. And that's why he's lasted so long. But this isn't about him. This is about you, and the truth, Cruise. And the truth is...you, and all those other people who don't find it deterring to be beaten by Hornet? It's just cuz you know...you KNOW...that you just don't have what it takes to beat him! And I guess that's acceptable to people who 'just move on'....but that's what's going to be your end in this match. (smirks) Cuz you don't have what it takes to beat me, either.

Tact looks with a smug look, crossing his arms over his chest.

Tact: You do seem to want me to think you're respecting me or something....telling me you'll shake my hand and whatnot. That's the wrong attitude, though. That's not what I want from you. That's just....revolting. Revolting because what is respect in wrestling? That word has been thrown around like the word 'legend!' All these people WANT to give RESPECT! It's about RESPECT now! You want to talk about reality checks bud? Here's one: I don't give a CRAP about your respect! I couldn't care less if you wanted to spit on me, much less shake my hand. Cuz it's the same damn thing in this industry. Respect has lost its value. Wrestling is not about respect...it's about doing your best to make it....to survive. I don't want respect around here...and I don't damn care if I'm respected, even. But people will know...and I daresay a handful DO know...that Larry Tact is a survivor. And don't go telling me you know this, no Cameron....no......

Tact's expression becomes more grim, more focused and stern as he uncrosses his arms.

Tact: All YOU have to do...is LISTEN! Listen closely, because I don't think you really do know, Cruise. Oh I UNDERSTAND that Malec brought you in, and not the other way around. Of course that's how it is! You're SPECIAL, after all, so you come in under different circumstances! Fine by me, Cameron! But you just remember something, when I've gone and made you SUBMIT....and make no mistake, I FULLY intend to follow through with my challenge...because I..DO..NOT..BACK..DOWN! I will HUMBLE your ***, and I will do it by OUTWRESTLING YOU! Just like I said I would!

Tact roughly handles the magazine now, ripping through the pages as he speaks.

Tact: I looked into the RANKINGS Cameron, and you're right, I'm number 10 aren't I....WOW! Is that your standard Cruise? Is THAT what you determine 'serious' matches by, as opposed to 'less challenging' matches?

Tact tosses the magazine behind him and it hits the backdrop, causing ripples to shiver through it.

Tact: Is THAT how you determine importance of opposition? How much the match MEANS to you? Well I'll tell you right now, it's a whole lotta HOOPLA!! I could be number one, and tell you the SAME EXACT THING! Cuz all that is, Cameron, is another outlet for people to STROKE their egos! You might find some people talking about it in the back, but I guarantee there are 'unranked' people who could BEAT YOU just like I will at Riptide! All those rankings are there for are the FANS, and we all know how oblivious THEY are. Those rankings are just something for the journalists to do to keep themselves busy, so they can say they did something to earn their weekly pay. However, they should mean NOTHING to the people who enter the ring. Unless you like to....

Tact makes a hand motion in the air in front of him, as if something were filling the empty space for him to stroke and caress. After a few seconds he stops and laughs. When he speaks again, he sounds a bit sarcastic.

Tact: But I'm not just talking about you, though Cameron, so don't take offense, okay? (chuckles) Mistakes will be made, Cameron...and for you, it seems you've sealed your fate before you'll even step into the ring. There's nothing PERSONAL between us, of course not! I don't know you, and I don't care enough about you to take anything you say personally. So Cameron, keep that in mind, so you know that at Riptide, when I humble you...it won't be anything PERSONAL...it'll be the PROFESSIONAL performance by me. A PROFESSIONAL wrestler...and you can make no mistake....about that.

Tact turns and snatches up the magazine from the floor. He looks at it momentarily, then gives a dismissive sound before tearing it in half, dumping it back on the floor, and stepping on it as he walks out of the picture. Fade out.
