Up/Down

(Cueup: "Someday" by Nickelback)

(Things start out with a black screen. After a few seconds, the words "CANNONBALL KIDD" appear, grow seemingly closer to the camera, and then fade out. They are followed by "A MAN" and "WITH A MESSAGE". After the text is a close-up on Cannonball Kidd's eyes, covered as always by his signature flight goggles)

Cannonball Kidd: It's inexplicable...but it seems like even when I take what might be considered a step back, it can easily be interpreted as just yet another step forward. Of course, a big part of self-actualization is being able to view the negative as positive, but that isn't the reason for my interpretation.

(Camera zooms out to show Cannonball's face)

Cannonball Kidd: Because you see, in order to view the negative as positive, I would have to view the negative as something that can be considered somewhat...well...NEGATIVE. And that simply isn't the case. I could consider it a step back that, while I'm wrestling Maelstrom for the Great Lakes Heavyweight Title on Riptide, on Wired I'll just be involved in a tag match. It would make some sense...Maelstrom is a pretty high-profile name, whereas Nemesis and Jarod Poe are somewhat less renowned. But thinking it over, there's no way I can consider this a step back in my career.

(Camera zooms out to show Cannonball's torso)

Cannonball Kidd: I mean, once I beat Maelstrom at Riptide, I'll be the Great Lakes Heavyweight Champion. One can't really go too much further up from there. So after that, it'll just be title defenses and such. And while my match on Wired won't be a title defense, it WILL be a chance for me to show what a fighting champion I am by taking on not just one, but TWO of the people I've had moderate issues with in the recent past.

(Cannonball adopts an inspirational grin)

Cannonball Kidd: First, you've got Jarod Poe. And even though all I did was go out and prove to Poe that I would beat him just like I said I would, he seems to have developed some sort of grudge against me, judging from the rants he forced us all to sit through in preparation for his match with Larry Tact on Riptide. So I don't really have any more to prove to Poe, except maybe that I'm just going to beat him again if he doesn't take my advice. And then you've got Nemesis, who is really the only person I still have something to prove against, since he's the only person in GLCW who's beaten me, albeit through a string of questionable circumstances. But since he still has yet to stop hiding behind his words as a way of disguising his insecurities, it's clear that once the playing field is level, I'll not have much trouble with him this time.

(Cannonball adopts a faux thoughtful look)

Cannonball Kidd: And then, of course, you've got my tag team partner. It looks like what I said was true...once people see proof that my program for self-actualization works, they'll start realizing that it really can benefit them the way I say it can. Why, no sooner had I taken "Man of Action" Joe Clarke under my wing and made him the first person to benefit from my Message, then Larry Tact also began to realize that my Message can help him. Now, I wouldn't go so far as to say that Larry has adopted my program yet...he has yet to make a decision, and I respect that, because self-actualization is no small task and it takes a lot of commitment to succeed at it. The important part is that I have yet another person listening...it won't be long now until there are people lining up to hear my Message.

(Cannonball strikes a heroic pose)

Cannonball Kidd: So that's the BEST thing about this match I'll be involved in on Wired. It's going to be an opportunity to take two people who have been my foes as of late, and give each of them another chance to partake in my program. Unlike Mr. Poe, I don't hold a grudge. And even though both Poe and Nemesis have mild grudges against me, I'm willing to forgive that and give BOTH of them - not just one - an opportunity to listen to my Message and be put on the path to self-actualization.

(Camera zooms in on Cannonball's face)

Cannonball Kidd: I know each of you has some sort of problem with me, but part of self-actualization is forgiveness of minor offenses, and I'm more than willing to oblige. Don't let your forthcoming loss depress you - that wouldn't be at all constructive. So why not turn our match into something constructive for all involved? Poe, Nemesis...don't think of me as your opponent. Don't think of me as your enemy. Just think of me as exactly what I am...a Man...

(Camera zooms in on Cannonball's eyes)

Cannonball Kidd: ...with a Message.

A tactful agreement....

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Aug-02-03 AT 01:29 AM (EST)]Fade in: to Larry Tact, walking into a plain looking apartment building lobby, with painted beige walls, a couple couches and a few chairs near a television, and an opening to another room. Tact has on casual attire; baggy black jeans and boots and a white t-shirt. He has a cup in his hand, filled with a drink, and walks around one of the couches, sitting down on the burgundy slip-cover as he relaxes and takes a swig of the drink, setting it down in front of him on a table, and looking with a smirk.

Tact: You know what's even better than getting to face Jarod Poe at Riptide? Getting to face him AGAIN right afterward, and further our little ongoing score. Why, you may ask? Well, quite simply, it's because I feel that despite what he has coming to him at the Water World, it just won't be enough to satisfy my desire to humble him. Whether I win or lose, and I am quite confident it will be the former, the past couple weeks have only made me feel like I've dumped a few packs of Sour Patch Kids down my throat. In these final few days of preparing for our one-on-one match, Poe, I've realized that you've actually left an even more disgusting impression on me than in our first two encounters. No matter, though, because that will have no bearing on what happens at Riptide. Well...not in the ring, at least....

Tact lets out a small chuckle under his breath.

Tact: This match, though, will not be as much about who wins and who loses. Because if I pin Jarod Poe again -- purely as an example, of course...(smirks)...what difference does it truly make? It won't give me quite the same personal satisfaction, since it will be a tag match. But what this match will do...is give some more time for more lumps to be gained. See, we'll have plenty of time to inflict more damage upon each other, Jarod, and that's something I very much look forward to. I'll take some bumps if I can continue your recent suffering....and I fully intend on doing just that.

Tact leans back and places his arms on the back of the couch.

Tact: And it won't just be me, oh no....this is a joint effort, after all. So it will be myself and the Cannonball Kidd doing the damage in this contest. I'm sure some people might question such a pairing, but it really makes good sense. After all, Cannonball Kidd is with his defined goals, and I have my own as well. I'm about the only one in GLCW who hasn't cowered in fear at the prospect of somebody offering to help -- and let's face it Poe...you're right near the top of that list in this company. GLCW is filled with conceited people who can't get past their own egos and just listen to the facts, unfortunately. But being one who prefers to be objective and give the hard, difficult facts, I was open to Cannonball Kidd when he first offered his program, when we faced each other. And even if I don't-- er...apply for full membership to the Kidd's program, as the 'Man of Action' has, it's the courtesy that I'm confident Cannonball Kidd will remember. The courtesy I showed first, before any other, to objectively listen to the self-actualization program...or the basics of it, at least. That's more than I can say anyone had done previous to myself, and only Joe has done it since then. And if you don't believe that matters, just wait until Wired. Because that's when you, Poe, and you, Nemesis, will see just why it pays to listen and learn, instead of being stubborn. You'll see how much it pays off, when the Kidd and I find ourselves with no problems in cooperatively kicking your tails.

Tact laughs, then leans forward, taking another drink from his cup, then placing it back on the table and leaning back again.

Tact: This match will also be a 'touching base' for myself. I mean, when I came into GLCW, the first person I faced was Nemesis himself. Since then, though, we haven't crossed paths. So I'm sure we're both in much better ring shape than we had been in Hammond, Indiana those months ago. I'll be very interested in seeing how I do against you, Nemesis. Maybe you shouldn't try any more top rope maneuvers against me this time, though....it could only get you into trouble again. Despite our debut outings, though, it seems you've had the more 'prosperous' time here, so far. You've gotten a couple title shots, been in that big Battle Royal...you get the idea. Meanwhile, I've been going about mixing things up with Jared Wells and your thick-skulled tag team partner. Don't bother working out match strategy with that one, I'll just warn you now...he's not much about listening as much as acting...and he just got back up, too, did'ja hear? Well...I hope your more glamorous road hasn't made you that way, Nemesis. I'd hate for you to think I've somehow digressed just because I haven't gotten put in...unfavorable situations, as you have. I just haven't felt titles were worth my time, as I was more focused on improving the quality of those who competed here, myself included, and even those who I would eventually face for a title. A noble cause, and one that has had success, but one that I have now limited to my matches, so I can expand on other objectives. If you listen to Poe, though, I'm sure he'll tell you otherwise. He'll give you a great story about the one title match that I did have here, against him. It'll be such a great story, in fact, that it could only be a story...a work of fiction. And should you choose to believe him, hey, that's fine by me! But either way, at Wired you'll find out what is fact, and what is fiction...and that I am sharper than ever. I would expect the title shots and such have not gone to your head, though, so similar can hold true for you. Then this match truly will be interesting.

Tact leans forward and rests his forearms on his thighs.

Tact: Actually...you know, I hope you do laugh and mock us, Poe. I hope you look at Cannonball Kidd and Larry Tact, and look at Nemesis as your tag partner, and see an easy match for yourself. And I hope Nemesis tries to be the voice of rational thought, and convince you of otherwise. That will make things all the better for the Kidd and I, as we watch the classic struggle unfold between the gritty, tough-as-nails former Television Champion and his charismatic, subtle 'partner.' Oh! And what a fit it'd be if it was you, Poe, the former Television Champion....and NEMESIS, the newly crowned GLCW Television Champion, as of Riptide! Wouldn't that be entertaining for all to watch. Even I must admit, though I'm not an advocate of drama and entertainment receiving center stage in wrestling -- much less one of my matches -- I might just make an exception if Nemesis beats Morgan, and that situation came about. But once Wired comes around, Cannonball and I will take over the real entertainment from there. When it comes down to it, all that the pair of you will really have to do is bring yourselves to Silver Cross Field, pumped and ready....to be tactilized!

Tact gets up and takes his drink, giving one more smirk before taking his leave. Fade out.

A Tactilizing(?) Message from a Man(?)

FADE IN…

(A man sits at a café, eating what looks to be a ham and cheese sandwich. He wolfs it down hungrily, until an attractive young lady walks passed him. He then puts the sandwich down and wipes his mouth with a linen napkin. Folding the napkin in his lap, he smoothly picks up the remaining half of his sandwich and nibbles at it delicately. His attention turns back to the sandwich, and then to the woman, back and forth between the two. Hunger wins out, and gulping down the sandwich quickly. The woman looks on, almost in disgust… then in intrigue. She gets up, and sits beside the man. She reaches over, and pulls away half of what looks to be another ham and cheese sandwich. She begins to chomp into it while the man looks on in disgust, and then elation. He takes the remaining half of the sandwich, and gobbles it down. The women quickly finishes, and pats her mouth with her napkin, and gets up to leave. The man, still eating, nods in acknowledgement.)

WOMAN: Thanks…

NEMESIS: Don-men-shin-et

(A feeble attempt at a “you’re welcome” of sorts. The man finishes himself, and wipes his mouth on his sleeve. The man looks at the camera as he washes down his sandwich with a cool iced tea.)

NEMESIS: …ah. That was interesting. Of all the people in the world to come by me as I ate those sandwiches… the one attractive woman in the world that thinks it’s acceptable to inhale a sandwich sits next to me, and then has the decency to partake in the festivities. Happy birthday GLCW… I was here briefly in the beginning, and I’m here now. And as it stands… I don’t have plans for going anywhere.

(The man smiles at the camera, and claps his hands as he goes to crack his knuckles. He let’s out a sigh and sits back in his chair.)

We have ourselves a tag match, one with a possible Heavyweight Champ and a possible Television Champ… but I don’t care much for that possibility. Tact, feel free to try and stir the pot, but I have better things to do then worry about my partner looking cock-eyed at me. I have better things to do then worry…

And Kidd… I’m sorry, but it appears as though you’ve created some faux rivalry between us. You see, it’s never been like that to me. I beat you, I beat you again… no grudges, no “issues,” no rivalry. If you have issues with Poe, you best get them straightened out on your own time, because this Wired isn’t going to be for tying up loose ends or making friends. It’s a match made with four of the best singles competitors in the GLCW. That in itself should make way for the Match of the Night, regardless of whatever Six-man may be accompanying us on the card.

(The man takes another sip of the iced tea, and places it back down on the table.)

Larry, you too have created some false idol in your mind about who I am, and certain pushes I may have received. I’m not some big main-eventer, and I’m not some GLCW golden-boy. I do my job, get booked in matches, and that’s all. I fail to see how earning my way into matches where contenderships and titles on the line has to do with my status of “stardom.” You, of all people, should know I’ve never cared much for glory, only for the quality of the matches I participate in. In some matches, I have more control in terms of quality then I do in others, and THAT fact is what makes the difference. You’ve had high-profile matches of your own, and it’s a shame you can’t appreciate them for what they are.

You both seem to have more to say to the former Television champ, which I understand whole-heartedly. I’m not a former champion. In most circles, I’m barely a blip on the radar. However, you’ll find that while Poe has donned the gold before, I’m hardly someone to overlook, or make presumptions of.

Kidd… this is the last time I’m going to let you know. It’s obvious that I don’t need your program, I not only because I’ve beaten you. It’s obvious because the only one who’s taken you up your offer is a man you’ve brought in yourself, hardly an accomplishment when it comes to “getting your message” out to the lost souls of this federation. All in all, I’m saying you’re batting “O” for “a whole lot” so far… regardless of who you’ve beaten. Undefeated except for me right? Well… I don’t call that much of an undefeated streak. And as for using your victories to reconcile your failures as a “man with a message,” I fail to see how getting pinned by someone like you is any indication of one’s self-actualization, or there ability to fulfill one’s potential.

And Tact… we’ve got years and years of history. Good and bad, we also seem to end up on the opposite sides of the ring. Funny how that works out. Don’t make excuses for your matches, your quest to “teach” old men like Jared Wells how to wrestle… it’s pointless. I know you’re know slouch, regardless of your record or your matches. I know all you can do is get better, and that’s a fact I’m sure has been proven true time and time again. Odd that you advise me not to go to the top… I would’ve thought you’d know better then to give an opponent like me advice… especially advice that you know I won’t heed. I live for the thrill… the gasp that comes from a crowd of thousands when leaping off the top… Stay away? How?

(The man looks to his left, and nearly rolls his eyes as he adjusts his gaze back to the camera.)

And as for you Poe… you know we aren’t friends or pals. I don’t care about any of the sh*t you have with Tact or Kidd… I don’t wanna hear about it, and I don’t want it getting in the way of us winning this match. Let’s keep our heads on straight and get this together. We’re a team for a night, and I prefer a match worth watching for the “oohs” and “ahhs,” not the moans and groans. I realize you’re capable of putting on a great match. You’ve beaten me for titles… so I know you’ve got it in the ring. Let’s keep it together from our side…

And so folks, I leave you with an “adieu,” and in honor of the worn-out catch phrases I’ve been subjected to recently… Tact and Kidd… come walk the path… come taste my Wrath… the simple truth is that… the Wrath AWAITS!!

(The man gets up as a waitress comes to take his plate. He smiles at here and says something that looks like “the ham and cheese is great” but it’s inaudible. He stands, stretches, and walks out of the shot.)

FADE OUT.

Skin deep...and then a bit deeper.....

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Aug-05-03 AT 09:20 PM (EST)]Fade in: to a green backdrop, with the GLCW logo in blue bold lettering. Larry Tact sits on a stool, his hands clasped together and his index fingers touching his chin as he looks to be in thought. He is wearing silver leather pants and a blue t-shirt with "Simply Tactilizing" written in gold cursive, as well as black boots, fingerless gloves, blue-lensed, silver-rimmed shades, and a blue bandanna wrapped over his head, covering his bleach-blonde hair. Tact looks up at the camera after a little bit, his hands moving down to rest on a leg, and a small frown appearing on his face.

Tact: Nemesis....I think you have overlooked something that GLCW clearly sees in you. I won't spend a great deal of time on it, but I feel you should know my intentions, calling your road thus far here a 'glamorous' one. It's like this....GLCW sees you as a great marketing tool for themselves. Of course I know you aren't one for glitz and glamour, but that is what they want. They see you as a charismatic individual, who can sell lots of t-shirts with his way of going about things. You're all about giving to the fans, making your matches the best of the night, and giving these off-the-chart performances. So why wouldn't they take that and use it to their advantage? And in return, you get more exposure, and I'll admit, you do make your way into those title shots and such. I never said you didn't earn it. I didn't think I had to, really, since we've all seen it happening in the ring. But above all, you're a 'good soldier,' Nemesis. You don't have gripes, you just want to be left alone, out of the pointless scuffles and on your way to wherever it is you are going. That's your style...or it has been since your return. You're a changed man, after all.

Tact gives a snort -- possibly out of disgust, possibly of admittance -- and a small smirk briefly flashes across his lips before his expression evens.

Tact: But no matter what, the GLCW had set the 'glamorous' path out for you to be tossed into when you came here, and you have obliged and followed it. I don't have a problem with that, really...it's just that I wanted to make sure you hadn't let it get to your head like helium to a balloon. I warned you not to try dealing with your partner for that very reason, as well. For Jarod Poe has let his success seep a bit too much into his crooked mind. He sees himself having been robbed, and wants revenge now...etcetera etcetera. I won't go into details, since it has little to do with this match. I wanted to make sure, though, that there was at least one person who would provide some interesting competition in this contest. After all, I could have taken this week to be my 'Week of Retribution.' At Riptide it'll be Poe. At this Wired, it could have possibly been Jared Wells. But that will not be, and so I have turned my attention on you two. Don't let me down now, hm?

Tact laughs a little, then adjusts himself on the stool, propping both his legs up on the bottom rung.

Tact: As for glory.....well, there's another issue. I certainly remember our history, Nemesis, and I remember that some of it saw Ellis Scott all too ready to eat up glory for every meal. Now I know you've changed...clearly.....but I wonder, how much can anyone really change? For instance...you went to the top in our first match, and you paid for it in the end. Now I give you fair warning, but you haven't changed, have you? You're still planning to take those steps to the high impact move....and you know what, I wouldn't be surprised if you find yourself taking another spill as a result, cuz I'll be ready to make you regret not heeding my warning. I had thought you might have changed to be a bit less reckless, but I suppose some things just need to be forced into your head, don't they..?

Tact gets off the stool and stands in front of it, taking the shades off his face and holding them in hand as he crosses his arms over his chest and looks sternly forward.

Tact: But if reckless is your way, then it's your choice. You take your best shot to make it work, but I'll tell you this....recklessness will only mean your end. It's kind of ironic, that you've been known to be a loose cannon at times in your career, yet now....you're the one who's let himself be led by GLCW most of the time. You are their 'Golden Boy,' or one of them. I guess there might be a few others, but you fall in that line, Nemesis. I've been more the loose cannon here, outside of the ring, while inside of it I've stuck to my style. I tell it how it should be told, though....in cold truth. And while I know you are similar -- you don't beat around the bush -- the only time I've seen Nemesis really go after something he wanted in GLCW, that wasn't on any of the possible forks in the road they've set ahead of you, is when you went after Minion. Edmunds, too...but you still had a foot on the path then. You went after Minion, though. But since then, you look a bit toned down. Meanwhile, I've been going about taking my issues up with those I have a problem with. Wells ain't no old man, yet, but I only intend on quickening his trip back to the retired. It isn't about teaching him a damn thing. I don't want to teach you anything, either, Nemesis. I only want to show you that, while you have changed.....there are some valuable things you've seemed to have lost. But in this match, I guess you'll have a chance to show me that...the wrath awaiting....is still something.....simply tactilizing. The thing I wonder is.....what makes you think you'll get that chance? All I see is a reckless mistake, some miscommunication, and a cohesive duo putting away a former Champion and one of GLCWs 'Golden Boys.' You tell me why I should think otherwise, Ellis....

Tact smirks devilishly. Fade out.

circles

(heavy footsteps and metal chains of his leather jacket are all that is heard as Jarod Poe walks in front of a GLCW backdrop. Underneath the spotlight is a lone folding chair setting the scene to look like an execution instead of an interview. Jarod's dark eyes glare at the camera as the has the look of cold death in them. Slowly he sits down, places hands upon knees and looks into the camera)

Poe: Tedium...I think that's the first word that poppe dinto my head when I head that once more I had to step into the ring with Larry Tact and his partner as I like to call him..."The man with a message" It's a bee hear and done that for me. Larry I've already proven twice I'm a better wrestler then you. Yet you run of unspectacular perfromance means that soone rthen later a fluke will occour and you'll get a victory upon me. I've heard alot LArry of how you want nothing more then to improve the product here in the GLCW...may I suggest your first step would be to shut your mouth and go home. After all at least there you won't get your shoulders pinned to the mat for a three count one more time. Yet Larry your always looking forward to the next match aren't you. Always looking fro that next victory since the last one never seems to come. Well let me assure you Larry that this time when we meet in a meaning less tag-team match...well the past will just be repeated and one more your point will go unproven. Ah, but Larry your not the type to give up are you. No...you'll be back saying the past doesn't matter. Dinding anothe rfluke in your loss and once more you will look to humble me into your redemption. such a sad path to choose, but it's your cross to bare.

(Jarod slowly stands up and kick the metal chair away from him. He steps forward and look intot he camera)

Poe: Ah, but your not alone are you. No in the ring will be anothe rman who couldn't get the job done on his own. Tell me how did it feel? Did you get my mesage when I left you laying out cold in the ring...as I said I would do. Ah, but yuo did have a back-up plan I'll give you small credit for that. You might have gotten the victory, but as I said you could not do and that was pin my shoulders to the mat...ALL ON YOUR OWN!!! Look your one to put the cart before the horse anyways. I'll be more surprised the anyone of you walk of with the GLCW Heavyweight Title. After all if you can't beat me on your own...do you really think Maelstrom is in your league? Or do you have somebody all ready waiting in thw wings to once more come out and save your ass? You know I find nothign more humorous then the sight of you being dragged life accross the ring in order to get a victory. I think the visual alone show sus just what little your truly capable of. I see the message now...those that do...do...those that can't...cheat. Well don't worry in our tag-team match I know that at least his time around I'll have someone to watch my back...someone I almost trust. That would be you Nemesis

(Jarod paces in circles for a few moments before pointing and turning back tot he camera)

Poe: I gained a slight bit of respect for you in our match. There I had you on the ropes...I was working you over good until Minion came down and attacked me. To yuor credit you could have joined in...you could have taken a shortcut like ALL the others, but you actually stood up for yourself. That get's respect from me...not ALL of my respect, but alittle of it. Now though...now you have a chance to earn my trust...you prove your a deserving wrestler. Maybe even a champion should you defeat Morgan. You are at a threshold of greatness as I was not too long ago. You can either sieze the chance and giv eit the good fight or you can fall under the pressure of it all. It's all up to you Nemesis, but to your benifit you have me to back you up. I'm going out on a limb for you...don't cut me off...don't betray me. For much like the men across the ring will find out sooner then later...well I tend to find my Judas...and I'm not a merciful God at all...not in the slighest.
When that bell rings I will show none on the men who face us and none on the next man who crosses my path with betrayal

(Jarod pauses for a moment and a small smile creases upon his lips)

Poe: Sure this match in the grand scheme of things is quite meaningless. There's no titles on the line...no real glory to strive for. Just four men who really don't care too much for each other. Yet I'm not going to let that stray my focus. I'm going to take this match with all the seriousness of any other. For it's not everyday you get to settle a score...it's not everyday you get to inflict pain upon those who have commited wrongs upon you. It's not everyday you get to show just why your truly better then another man and he deep down isn't whaty he seems to be. I think the message is quite clear in that statement. Then there's you Larry...you want to inflict pain and now you'll have a partner to do it. Why now? Why not before? Are you not capable of doing it on your own? Look this business is all about pain Larry...I can take it...I've taken it from better men then you and being in the ring I can say you didn't hurt me too much. After all you've had three chances...four now, but yet here I stand. You bring your best...BOTH OF YOU!!! I invite you tro try and tear me apart...In the end I'll still be standing...I won't be going any where. You though...you'll still be here, but this time if it's in victory will you be able to look into the camera with a straight face and say you really did it ALL on your own? Hasn't happened yet

(Jarod starts to walk away, but laughs and turns back to the camera)

Poe: In the end one team will come out on top...the other as the past have shown...well true colors are always reveled and despite as much as you deny them...they are hard to wash away. I invite you to give i your best shot

(Jarod turns his back ahgain and walks away)

So shallow

(Outside his apartment Jarod Poe sprays the road dust off his classic Indian motorcycle as he prepares once more to head down the road. Carefully he ties his gear to the back of the bike and places a few items in the leather saddle bags on the side. Looking up at the sky shows a bit of cloud cover and the drive tonight could turn bad very quickly. His well worn leather jacker and tightens the straps on his riding chaps just before sitting upon the bike and looking into the camera)

Poe: Well will you listen to Larry Tact...listen to him preach like a concerned father to my partner. He's slowly trying to worm doubt into his mind. I think I even detected a small hint of bodily threat in his little speel. ah, but I think Nemesis and I know just a little bit better. As Larry admits I'm not the only one whose gotten the better of him. Ah, but Larry I'm not one of the GLCW's Golden Boys as you decribe Nemesis. Hell I don't conform to any rules and I certainly don't fit into the role model mold. Hell you should see some of the warnings management has sent me. Ah, but Larry this isn't about me is it? No Larry this is about your retribution...isn't it? You know it's a funny thing about retribution Larry...if you don't let people constantly get the better of you...well none is needed...right Larry? But you Larry...you seem to constantly be in searh of it. You've even issued Nemesis a friendly warning...that being reckless will get him hurt. Are you going to hurt us Larry?

(Jarod pauses for a moment, mockingly swallows hard and the breaks into a sinister laugh)

Poe: Well you go ahead and try Larry. Try and break me. Try and break Nemesis...remember you've had a chance before...I'm still here. Wait you had a chance at retribution with just little old me all alone and yet here I still stand. I'm reckless Larry...I'm very reckless. I lead a reckless life...yet here I still am...still in one piece even despite having been in the ring with you on three different occasions. I should tell Nemessis not to worry about your suttle threat as Larry you don't have a great history of backing them up...DO YOU? But don't worry about just Nemesis Larry....remember you have BOTH us us to deal with in the ring. Two men who you KNOW are more the capable of taking it to BOTH you and YOUR partner. Oh...yes your partner. A man who I sent a great message to in my own right. I put him to sleep in our first match...nearly knocked him out for good. ah, btu to his credit he had a back-up plan Larry. It's a good thing too, because he sure needed it didn't he? It's too bad you weren't that smart Larry...maybe "The Fading Light" would not have put an end to you

(Jarod cracks a slight smile, but soon his grim look returns)

Poe: Ah, but Larry don't you lose focus yourself/ This isn't about selling t-shirts and I could care less about a golden road. I don't want anythign handed to me...no I jsut want a FAIR chance to EARN my way to the top. Sure this match won't accomplish too much, but a win is a win. that's what I'm shooting for you you should know bette rthen anyone that I'm very capable of doing it. VERY CAPABLE!!! After all id it wasn't for me you'd be chasing down Jared Wells...I tell you what If I see him I'll be sure to give him fair warning. after all wouldn't want him to get reckless and hurt at the hands of Larry Tact and his path of retribution. It's a long road Larry and I suspect you'll be on it for quite some time. I hope none of this gets under your skin Larry after all you should admire me...I'm just cutting to the cold hard truth...just like you do Larry. After all your never one to avoid that...ARE YOU????

(Jarod put the bike and gear and peddeling with his feet turns around in the driveway)

Poe: So Larry while you send Nemesis a warning or maybe just a friendly gesture I want you to do the same to yours. Give you partner this message. He'd better strap the boots real tight and be on his game like never before. Why?...well it's real simple Larry...payback...you know what payback is...your looking for it yourself. Well when the bell rings payback is a real bi**h. You'll know this better then anyone else, because when the bells rings you'll have one standing in the corner right next to you. Have a nice day Larry...I've got a long ride before I get in the ring and stop you from Humbling me ince more. See you in the ring

(Jarod kicks down and the bike's engine roars to life. Putting on his helmet he puts it into gear and take sof in a cloud of dust)

Yes yes but

(Cueup: "Better" by Cowboy Mouth)

(Things start out with a black screen. After a few seconds, the words "CANNONBALL KIDD" appear, grow seemingly closer to the camera, and then fade out. They are followed by "A MAN" and "WITH A MESSAGE". After the text is a close-up on Cannonball Kidd's eyes, covered as always by his signature flight goggles)

Cannonball Kidd: Since I fired the opening shot in the war of words leading up to my next match, as it were...I've not said much. Instead, I have been focusing my attention on the words of my opponents. This will be my first tag match in GLCW, and it's a very different kind of analysis.

(Camera zooms out to show Cannonball's face)

Cannonball Kidd: I'm not just looking for ways to improve the lives of my opponents. I have a partner that I also have to look out for, make sure he's the best he can possibly be. After all, I am the only self-actualized wrestler in GLCW, and that's a high standard for a tag-team partner to live up to. Now, as a self-actualized man, I dislike bragging...it's just something I am loath to do. I may make a few passing references to my success in the self-actualization process, but that's only to try and convince the many, many misguided souls in GLCW that they, too, can improve their lives through self-actualization. But if I can't brag about myself, perhaps I can brag about someone else...my tag-team partner.

(Camera zooms out to show Cannonball's torso)

Cannonball Kidd: Now, let me assure you, I'm not just doing this because Larry Tact is going to be on my side when I battle Nemesis and Jarod Poe on Wired. And I'm not just doing it because Larry is one of the precious few individuals to actually listen to my Message instead of dismissing it as the poisoned word of a hypocrite, as the closed-minded tend to do. No, if I'm going to praise Larry Tact, I'm going to do it for all the right reasons.

(Cannonball adopts a faux thoughtful look)

Cannonball Kidd: As I've sat and watched the verbal proceedings since I first spoke, I've noticed a trend. While Nemesis and Jarod Poe seem to focus on nothing but irrelevant past incidents and assorted assertions of just how great they are, Tact has done nothing but make valid points. He points out the mutual understanding we have, while noting the fact that neither of our opponents seems to even want to tag with the other. He chastised our opponents for their recklessness. He seems to know your weaknesses just as I do. A good person to have on my side.

(Cannonball gives an inspirational grin)

Cannonball Kidd: But that's not all. Another important fact is that, while Larry and I certainly don't have the SAME goals, the basics of them are very similar. He wants to help improve the in-ring skills of his opponents. I, on the other hand, want to improve the lives of my opponents both inside and outside the ring. We both want to help our opponents in this match, albeit not in completely identical ways. Nemesis, Poe...you don't have the same goals. In fact, the two of you are astonishingly different in the way you do things. Nemesis is calm and collected to the point where every word that comes out of his mouth acts as a sedative to the listening audience, whereas Poe has serious uncontrollable rage issues. Nemesis claims I've made up the issue that exists between us, while I know that deep down, it eats at him that both of his victories over me have been terribly tainted; Poe swears revenge against me for doing exactly what I told him I would do, pin his shoulders to the mat for the three-count on the LAST edition of Wired.

(Cannonball shrugs)

Cannonball Kidd: It's a wonder to me that you two have stayed away from each other in your ultra-negative promos. I suppose both of you are bright enough to realize it's better to get along than it is to fight, considering that would give your opponents a substantial advantage, but it seems to me that fact is the only thing keeping you from getting at each other's throats. It won't be enough, though. Nemesis, Poe, the two of you are only able to function as individuals, out by yourselves against the world. Teaming up is a concept alien to the both of you, and that's why Larry and I have the advantage. We're both willing and able to function as a team, while you two are clearly uncomfortable with the concept.

(Cannonball strikes a heroic pose)

Cannonball Kidd: But you don't think I'll just stand here and be SATISFIED with that, do you? That would be downright devious of me. Malicious, even. And that's certainly not what a self-actualized person is all about. In fact, it is in the internal unwillingness of my two opponents to act as a team that I see an opportunity. Perhaps the reason the two of you have never responded to my offers to help you because you have trust issues. Your statuses as "lone wolves" are threatened when you allow yourself to become dependent on others. But trusting others isn't a BAD thing. In fact, it is only by having faith in others that we can truly have faith in ourselves.

(Camera zooms in on Cannonball's face)

Cannonball Kidd: Don't let my confidence that Larry Tact and I are the better tag team throw you off, Poe, Nemesis. I'm as interested in helping you as ever. I really think this tag match could be good for you...if you can start to learn to function as a team, to "play well with others," as the saying goes, it would be a good first step in getting you both on your own personal paths to self-actualization. And once you're there, I can be right there with you to help, if you'll just say the words. Your opportunities to benefit from my Message are greater than ever, you two, if you'll just finally take advantage of them. I may be working with a man, in our match, who does not have the same intentions for you, but we'll respect each other's goals. You're facing a formidable tag team, but only one member of that team is a Man...

(Camera zooms in on Cannonball's eyes)

Cannonball Kidd: ...with a Message.

(Fade out)

Yes yes but...save it for somone who cares

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Aug-08-03 AT 03:43 AM (EST)]It's been a long ride from Detroit as Jarod drove straight through some bad weather to finally arrive in Joliet, Illones. It's late, as he drives up to Silver Cross field. He drives around the back of the stadium and security checks his ID before letting him in. Slowing he walks from the bullpen area, across the outfield and in the direction of the infield where the GLCW ring is already set-up. The wind blows cool and there is a smell of fresh cut grass in the air. Jarod makes his way to the ring under the spotlights of the stadium. He takes a good look at the field and the at the camera)

Poe: Ah, the dreams of every young man. A glove...a ball...and a bat...it's the American Dream and the toughest of all sports to play. I must admit as a kid growing up in detroit...well I had baseball fever on more then one summer. Ah, but I grew up and not all dreams come true. Still ove baseball, but it never had enough contact for my taste. No I think I always prefered wrestling. Now I get to do what I do best on the boyhood field of dreams. Sounds more then a little sentimental. Maybe, but it won't stop me from doing what I do best...that's breaking a man down and exploiting his weakness. I've done that to Larry Tact...hell I've said that a thousand times. Nothing will ever change that fact...at least nothing he can do. Now I focus my well verbal attention for the moment on the man I destoyed in out last meeting. A man who said he had a message for me. well I gave him the perfect chance to to show it to me and it left me thoughly unimpressed. After all you'd think a Self Actualized man could at least get the job done on his own.

(Jarod rubs the back of his head remebering the cheapshot he took)

Poe: So what was it all about? I was in the ring...I saw what you had to give and the only answer I was left with was...I couldn't beat Jarod Poe..not by myself. To your credit you did get the win, but your way of doing it fell quite short of your montra. ah, what is there to expect from a man whom I consider a phony. After all if you even knew half of everything you try and preach you'd know your own exsistance in your chosen career makes you fall quite short of the man you claim to be. Hey don't take my word for it. take it from the word of the man who made the path for you to follow. Look at the examples of men he certified had made the level you claim to be on. Look at what they did with thier lives and look at how out of place you truly are. I know you going to refute what I say, but as Larry Tact will tell you something he tries to do...I'm just speaking the cold hard truth. Look it up if you must, but I know my place in life...I'm happy when I look in the mirrior in the morning. Your just like all the rest...you don't understand...so you judge yopu try to. You speak out of ignorance and it put a smile on my face with each and every word

(Jarod slides under the ring ropes..walks a small circle and the places his arms upon the top rope and stares into the camera)

Poe: Now you might have duped Larry Tact into following youe twelve steps, but that doesn't surprise me. Hell with his past (grins) success I'm sure he'd take any advice in the search for retribution he seems to always be on. However the message fell on deaf ears with me didn't it. All you got in return was well knocked sillier and had to have your sorry ass carried to victory. Wow...that is the road od an self-actualized man? I think I'll stick to the path I've chosen I can at least make the way on my own. You probably wonderign why I haven't asked who you got. Who did you get to come and take me out? Well I'm not going to ask...I don't care. If it's this stalker of mine or just somebody you paid off...I really don't care. He will be dealt with IF he actually has the guts to approach me face first. Then I'll be more then happy to treat him like the coward his actions have already labeled him with. Until then I'm looking forward to one thing...that's this match. That's Nemesis and I standing accross the ring from you two...waiting for the bell to ring and then all hell breaking loose. After all being the man you are I'm sure you prefer some structure, but not in this match. Not at all...it's pure chaos and that suits me just fine.

(Jarod smiles and runs his hands greedily together)

Poe: See you can go to what ever extremes you like to prove you and Larry are on the same team, but your over looking the one thing Nemesis and I have in common. That's a simple goal of victory and have enough of our OWN skill to get the job done. We can handle whatever you though at us all on our own...together it just makes us stronger. you...well you a saddled with a man who doesn;t even wnat to reach the highest goal he can in his chosen profession. No...he justs wants to make the in ring product just alittle better. well he found out on TWO occasions that he can't do that. I've given Larry a true way to improve the GLCW...to stop the constant search for retribution and above all rid the world of those ugly t-shirts at the souvineer stands. That's retire...leave as he did once before. Walk away...don't let the loss cause of retirbution consume him. After all it's going to be a long road before he's fully humbles all upon his list. Ah, but I'm one to let a fool march on...it's truly must see tv in my book

(Jarod turns his back in slumps down in the ring corner. The camera man enters the ring and centers in on him)

Poe: Now you can claim to know our weakness. You can claim that we don't even want to be in this match together, but as usual the truth is far out of your reach. You know our weakness? Well what is that? after all I've been in the ring with BOTH of you. I've left each one laying out cold...you don't think I've found a weakness and exploited it on each of you. Now I'm sure you'll claim to have corrected this small error that as Larry would say...got him off his game, but let me assure you of one thing. You better have had. Because I'm still the same guy...still the same cold and calculating man that took you both apart in the ring. I did it once and I'm mor ethen capable of doing it again. However now I have help. I have a man whose skill I admire. who gets in the ring and fights with honor. I loo forward to this match more and more every day. Some come looking for retribution...others might have a message to deleiver...I...well I'm just looking to frop you on you head just one more time. Reckless...you damn right. Path of rage...I'm quite gulity. Put both of you down for the count...I'll do it again.

(Jarod stands up and stares ahead coldly. His voice takes on a much graver tone)

Poe: save you message...forget retribution. Just show up and try to survive. In the end...when once more your laying on your back...pounding in your brain, throbbing in your neck...maybe even some numbness in your feet. you'll know what you've felt once before and hoped would never happen to me again. Damn that Jarod Poe...that bastard got me again. Yup...that's me and then some pal. You've just been hit with "The Fading Light" and as your eyes roll in the back of your head you might remember you've just gone down in defeat, but too make sure...well I'll still be here when you wake up to remind you of the nightmare of it all again and again. sleep tight on that one guys and look forward to misery in failure again. I'm sure the future will have me in a ring once more with a man looking for retribution, and I'm sure I haven't heard the last of this message. I know one thing for sure...it wasn't much of a man that tried to deleiver it and I will have proven so on more then one occasion. See you in the ring guys...time is ticking away

(Jarod turns his back, rolls under the ringropes and heads back in the direction he came in)

No "Bubba the Love Sponge," but...

FADE IN...

([link:wgnradio.com/shows/steve_johnnie/index.html|WGN Radio 720] in Chicago. The studio is a small one, cluttered with stickers, posters and tons of electronic equipment. The tops of the brown walls are coated in a light foaming, and the area for the radio personalities is a small one. A sign in the background says "WGN Radio: The Steve and Johnnie Show," with a man and a woman pictured below.

That same man and woman team sit in their respective positions on their own mics. The man, older and with a strong voice qualifies the radio's sponsor as the younger, blonde-haired woman giggles in the background.)

STEVE: This segment of the "Steve and Johnnie Show" is brought to you by Careerbuilder.com... helping people build their careers by providing them access to hundreds of employers, as well as help with resumes and job interviews. Visit w-w-w-dot-careerbuilder-dot-com for more details.

(Johnnie, still laughing, tries to continue as she speaks in her slight Southern accent.)

JOHNNIE: Tee, hee, hee... wow. Those [link:archive.wgnradio.com:8080/ramgen/wgnam/shows/steve_johnnie/audio/badjob030627sj.rm|summer jobs] were ridiculous.

STEVE: I know what you mean... poop-scooper... that guy needs careerbuilder.

JOHNNIE: Certainly does. Up next we have a phone-in interview with "Nemesis," a professional wrestler from the local, yet nationally known Great Lakes Championship Wrestling organization. It seems as though they have a show that people with internet access can log on and watch online.

STEVE: Nemesis is one of the federation's top stars, and he's currently booked for a match with Jarod Poe as they take on Larry Tact and the Cannonball Kidd.

JOHNNIE: Those two are certainly a pair of opponents for Poe and Nemesis... Poe himself is quite a character. Nemesis has been on the show once before, just after the GLCW's "Massive Assault" event.

STEVE: Lucky we know a thing or two about wrestling, otherwise this interview might not go so smoothly... my producer is telling me Nemesis is on the line... Nemesis, you there?

NEMESIS: ...

JOHNNIE: Nemesis, you're on the Steve and Johnnie Show... are ya there?

NEMESIS: Yes Johnnie, I'm here. How are you two?

STEVE: We're good. How are you?

NEMESIS: I'm great, just making a few appearances and getting ready for Joliet.

JOHNNIE: Excellent, feeling better after that leap off the fire escape?

NEMESIS: Oh, I'm one-hundred percent now after that. That was an amazing move right there, but I think it was the only way I was gonna get the match won.

STEVE: But moving on to Joliet, you haven't appeared in a tag-match yet in the GLCW. Now that I think about it, you haven't been in many tag matches in your career.

NEMESIS: You're exactly right, Steve. The good thing is, neither have my opponents. Kidd and Tact haven't seen much tag-action in what I know of their careers, so we're all pretty green to the experience.

JOHNNIE: Speaking of that, what's your relationship with your tag partner, Jarod Poe. Another man who hasn't seen much of the tag ranks.

NEMESIS: Well... it's like this. I'm not going to go cliché and say Poe and I have a mutual respect or anything like that. Truth is, we just realize that the only way to get through this match is to work together as a unit. We've been in some talks, and we've got a lot of ideas about how to mesh and work together as a team. As opposed to our opponents, we don't feel the need to "toot each others' horn," so to speak...

JOHNNIE: hee, tee, hee...

NEMESIS: ...we're both good at what we do, and we both know that. That's all. Poe is a great wrestler, and I have very little concern going into this match in terms of being able to work well with him.

STEVE: But you have to admit, the guy is a little on the "unusual" side...

NEMESIS: A little? Nah, I'm just kidding. Poe follows the beat of his own drummer, and so do I, so it's something I can understand.

JOHNNIE: And what about Cannonball Kidd and Tact... what are your feelings about them?

NEMESIS: As a team, they're certainly not one to be taken lightly. While they do suffer from verbal diarrhea outside the ring, they can back up much of what they say in the ring. While being sure of one's self has never been much of a vice, over-confidence and the inability to accept the simple truths for what they are... can be detrimental. I'm sure the two have some surprises cooked up as well, in terms of their cohesiveness and tagging techniques, but that's to be expected.

Larry Tact seems to feel that I'm reckless by not always sticking to the mat. The mat may be where he's most comfortable, but the canvas is just one of my many homes. I have to risk my neck out there, or I don't feel I'm doing my job as a competitor, or as someone who people pay money to see. I'm not here because I know every hold in the book, I'm not here because I can lock on an armbar like nobodies business. I'm here cause I can make the people in the cheap seats feel great knowing that while their seats may be in the nosebleeds, the view is a whole lot better than the view of those who are turned away from a sold-out arena. That's just my style, to put it all on the line without some unnecessary, garbage tricks.

STEVE: In a recent promo, Larry said that you were being "led" by the GLCW to be their "Golden Boy." What do you think he meant by this, and what do you have to say in response?

NEMESIS: Larry seems to have it ingrained in his head that I do not choose my own battles. He seems to think the GLCW is putting in matches where I can shine, and so that they can reap the benefits of my performances. Now, while that may or may not be the case, I do not pursue affairs which are not my own. I won't build up a false facade, no matter what GLCW officials try to tell me. It's one thing they haven't pushed on me, and for that I'm appreciative. Tact seems to think I need to be out for blood every time I go out to the ring, and that the fill of competition isn't enough reason to go out night after night. It's about more than grudges and feuds Larry... it's about becoming better, which you should at least know something about by now, considering it's your new mantra. However, you seem to think by priding over past victories and plastering over losses is going to make you something... but it isn't.

As for being a Golden Boy... I've been where you are, and it isn't pretty being tarnished. One day you'll realize all that you've missed, all the proud opportunities you've squandered. I hope only that you are fortunate to realize that before it's too late to make amends, and make something of yourself.

JOHNNIE: Tact certainly seems to have his goals mixed up... trying to make the wrestlers in GLCW better... how? By beating some and harping like a crow, and losing to others and not even giving them a footnote. Seeking out bitter rivalries? How does that make a better wrestler?

NEMESIS: Your guess is as good as mine. Larry went through some tough times there for a bit... and tough times can do strange things to a man...

STEVE: And what about this "Man with a Message?" What's Cannonball Kidd's deal?

NEMESIS: Cannonball Kidd, like Stephen Morgan, is a dreamer who lives only for what's in his head, and for the ruby-tinted world he creates before his own eyes. He fashions feuds out of thin air, and criticizes others for feats which he himself are guilty of... speaking of those feats... Kidd... your analysis of me is poor at best. Though, what would I expect when you mar me with words of speaking calmly, while you spout on and on for minutes about how you plan on praising your partner and not yourself, give him a brief foot-note, then continue to drone on about the cohesive of the teaming of Poe and I, leaving your praise of Tact to practically not exist. Simply enthralling speech-work.

Praising Tact should be self-explanatory, though you did make one mention of him making only reasonable and valid arguments in your promo. Save one, which you and everyone else involved in this match is guilty of. You have quarrels with the past, discussing them? Why bring them up at every turn? Must be something you picked up from your "spotless" partner.

JOHNNIE: Wow Nemesis, we're almost out of time.

NEMESIS: Thank you both for having me again, I hope to be back in the studio sooner rather than later.

STEVE: Likewise Nemesis, as always, it's a pleasure.

NEMESIS: The pleasure is doubly mine, Steve and Johnnie.

JOHNNIE: Anything you'd like to say before we hit to commercial?

NEMESIS: Sure thing... I'd like to wish a happy birthday to my godson Alex, as well as encourage anyone who'd like to watch the Joliet "Wired" show to log-on at w-w-w-dot-G-L-C-W-dot-com.

JOHNNIE: Happy birthday Alex! And good luck Nemesis!

STEVE: Yeah, good luck!

NEMESIS: Thanks, take care you two.

JOHNNIE: Wow, I know I'm gonna log on and catch that show.

STEVE: Log on? I'm going to go to Joliet and try and get a seat my self.

JOHNNIE: With Nemesis in the ring, it won't even matter if you get the cheap seats!

STEVE: Ha, nope!

(Steve and Johnnie laugh as the show's music cues up and the head to a commercial break.)

FADE OUT.

This is why one should stay away from Detroit!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Aug-08-03 AT 07:31 PM (EST)]Fade in: to a plain looking apartment. White walls with a beige paint imprint pattern covering it....a couple black vinyl couches surrounding an entertainment center....a mini-bar. Okay, a bit more than plain. But nevertheless, it is where we find Larry Tact, who sits on one of the couches with a cocktail in hand, and a little umrella in the glass. Tact just sits with a big ol' smirk on his face as he looks straight ahead in khakis, blac boots, and a royal blue t-shirt with "Simply Tactilizing" written in a golden cursive. After this opening silence, Tact leans forward and places his glass on the table, after taking a sip, and leans back on the couch, his arms spread across the back of the couch as he lets out a small sigh. His expression has changed, though, from smirking to looking more deadpanned.

Tact: Jarod, oh Jarod....why have you forsaken the GLCW? Has it been tough for you, Jarod...? Knowing that you'll be facing me twice in two cards, very soon? Is it disgusting to think? A waste of time? Well, Jarod, you're such a tough guy, right? I'll tell you again, just like last week...go grow a set, tough guy, and stop the moaning about the circumstances you're in. You sound like....well, a sissy.

Tact leans forward, his look more malevolent as he grins.

Tact: Oh! Should I have not said that...? Have a slandered the name of Jarod Poe? What a horrible act! I'm sure I'll be in for it now, oh yeah....you're really going to give it to me now. It won't just be the "Fading Light"...oh no, maybe it'll be the "Sudden Impact" too! (feigns fright) I'm just in DEEP s*** now, aren't I....I just shouldn't bother to show up. After all, what do I have to go there for? Poe said I couldn't improve the wrestling product....he said I wasn't going to make any progress in my goals...he said I wasn't going to hurt him, even! He's like....invincible! He's JAROD FREAKIN' POE! HOLY CRAP! What have I done?! How could I make him, JAROD POE, out to be NOTHING SHORT OF....beatable. AND...flawed. And worst of all....something resembling....human! Ohh no, oh no oh no oh no......

Tact procedes to mutter this repeated to himself, looking down to the floor.

Tact: I should NEVER have disagreed with him...I should have just gone along with everything he said....I should have known he was right....maybe I should go retire, cuz he said so and insulted my TEE SHIRT!

(Tact looks up with a blatant mock horrified look, his mouth opening in an exaggerated-type of slow manner, and his eyes unnecessarily wide open, bulging out of his head.)

Tact: That's GOTTA mean something....after all....I'm all about the t-shirt sales...it's not anything to do with wrestling....after all, Jarod said I was never going to change the facts. Which means.....

Tact gasps, but then looks calm again, suddenly.

Tact: That Jarod Poe will never admit to anything that portrays himself in a bad way. Jarod Poe will not think anyone is more certain of their direction than he. Jarod will not admit flaw. And most importantly....Jarod Poe....will NEVER....see it all come crumbling down for him. Not before it has already begun.

A slight, lopsided grin forms along Tact's lips before he continues, leaning forward, forearms on knees.

Tact: And THAT is something that even the Cannonball Kidd may never be able to help with. Quite simply because...it is not the Kidd's job to lift people up and take them over their obstacles. It is not for Cannonball Kidd to walk people through their every demon and bad dream, alike. It is not for the CANNONBALL KIDD, Jarod Poe, to just lay out the weakness that he sees in you. What help does that provide you? And what satisfaction would there be for the Kidd to gain, from literally giving the answers away to you? Tell me, Jarod, cuz even I'M interested to know how Cannonball Kidd identifying your weakness is going to do anything to help you remedy it? Don't you know, Poe....identifying and accepting the problem -- or in your case, problems -- is something you have to do, if you want to overcome them. Cannonball Kidd isn't going to make it all better for you, sorry....he's not pretending to be some diety, like you. He's not claiming to be invincible, or God, and neither am I. But what we are....is just plain better, Jarod.

Tact takes up his cocktail and sips some more, then returns it to its place on the table in front of him and leans back on the couch.

Tact: Of course, being the better man, Cannonball Kidd does want to help you, Jarod. But first, he wants you to help yourself. Jeez, haven't you been listening AT ALL? Then again...forgot who I'm talking to. No matter to me, though. Because while the Kidd wants you to identify your problems...I really could care less. Hell, I'll give you one of your problems. It's....ME, Jarod. Larry Tact. And while I may only be a problem of temporary lasting, my effects can certainly be long-term. Because for the past few weeks, Jarod, you have given the same tiring schpiel for everyone to hear. The fans, ME, and most notably...Scott Malec. Yeah, he's been watching this little series of ours rather closely. And I must say, I think this is as bad a time as any for you to be saying that you're half-***ing it. Which is, essentially, what your mannerisms and words have expressed. You've talking mostly about how pointless it is to face me yet again, citing our previous two matches. If it hasn't been that, you've been talking about how you're bored, too tough for me, or making general conceited comments. And, of course, the usual slandering of me. So I thought turnabout would be fair play, and I'd start this appearance with a display of just what you're coming off as, Poe. Only, with the roles reversed, as it were. I'm not into the whole midget-as-insults campaign...nor the impersonators-as-insult deal. Just isn't my style....(shrugs) Cuz I'm just about the, yep, cold truth, Poe. And it smacked you so hard the past couple times, you've been trying it on for size, yourself. Unfortunately, it just isn't that easy, and you're making yourself look even more ridiculous, by trying to pass your slandering as truth. But I appreciate that you admit I provide honesty and facts to the audience, unlike you. And if you want to go making fun of what I do, that's fine. But there's a difference between making mistakes relating to just me, and....

Tact pauses... and slowly, his eyes narrow a bit. He leans forward once more, hands clasped now, and seemingly clenched to each other, as he speaks with a savage expression and a bubbling, though still evened, tone.

Tact: ....and making mistakes...referring to what I say about others. Like how you made my comments towards Nemesis out to be attacks. You know, Jarod, although I'm going to take great satisfaction in doing whatever I deem necessary to beat you...twice...in a row....I can't help but grow tired of your repetitive rambling. And while I'll admit, there are times when I am qute repetitive myself, at least when I say something more than once...it has purpose. It's a guideline. But with you, it's just trying to scrounge up something more to say. It's trying to cover...for lack of attentiveness. For an inability to make an effort to really know your opponents. And if you had even a slight idea of Larry Tact, or listened to my statements to Nemesis, without the intent of making him feel as insignificant as I make YOU feel...then maybe I'd consider that you did earn a victory over me because of something other than a fluke. Maybe I'd say that wrestling to a draw with you, in our first meeting, was something memorable. But instead, you go and do these stupid things! You want Nemesis to trust you? Well you shouldn't have tried turning his rival's remarks to something completely negative the first chance you got. The first chance you actually managed to hear something of what I said to him, that is. And yeah, you heard me right....I didn't say 'his mortal enemy,' or 'his hated rival.' I just said his rival. Nemesis and I aren't enemies, Poe. We're rivals. We have a certain degree of RESPECT for each other. And while I will always look to be superior, I can admit to teh facts, as well. I can admit that I have yet to disgust Nemesis for beating me. Dislike, yeah, maybe, but I can admit he was the better wrestler on the nights he beat me, because he outperformed me. Now, I can also admit that you were the better man on the night you pinned me. But it wasn't because you outperformed me, Poe. And that fact is enough to drive me towards retribution. I won't look to Nemesis for retribution, you see....I just look for a new challenge, the next time I face him. Cuz HE...is tough. But with you, I seek retribution because Jarod Poe, after the matches we've had here, I can honestly say that...(with a sneer)...you really do DISGUST me!

Tact breaths heavily, but remains stone faced, and his voice returns to a dangerously calm tone.

Tact: Whether you think I'm trying to intimidate, cheap shot, insult, or in any way inflict something upon you, Poe, I really couldn't care less. Quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of hearing you talk about one night of wrestling between us like it was a match to close the doors on our personal score with one another. And that is most certainly what it has become, you are right. It is a score to be settled. But not with any one match, Jarod. I don't even see an end to this. Because retribution can be gained over and over...and over again. There are things aside from marks on a record to gain retribution for. Like you being so conceited that it blinds you. There's a weakness if I ever saw one, not that you would pick up on it, Poe. That would contradict the meaning of it, after all. And to top it off, you're a conveyor belt of one-liners and rehashed 'done befores.' You know who you remind me of? Jean Rabesque. The king of conceit...and in addition, another person who cannot admit they lost at their own game. You, of course, almost top Rabesque in that category, because you are a man of many styles, aren't you Poe....yeah. Like I said, you want to cover any flaw, no matter how glaring or miniscule it might be, and to do that you'll go to great lengths....GREAT lengths....much like Rabesque. And don't give me some cock-eyed bull**** about how I'm in denial about losing to you. I lost, I know it, and I'm way past that by now. I wasn't intending on even bringing it onto the table, so to speak. But you just don't have anything better to say, do you? Instead of trying to analyze, you try to demoralize. You try to 'get under my skin.' But what good does it do? Even if I admit I hate you above all, Jarod Poe, what does it do? You're already reckless, and I'm not. So I already have a foot up there, already, and who's to say I can't control my emotions? You? I'd be hard-pressed to believe a conceited man with an enormous chip on his shoulder, despite having lost, over a man who practices what he preaches...meaning I humble, yet I am humble. To those who deserve it. But can you make such a comparison, Jarod? Of course not. It'd make a scratch on that shiny armor of false conviction you've suited yourself up in, wouldn't it.....

Tact takes his drink in hand once more, and downs the little bit remaining, then stands up and starts speaking in a mock voice of Jarod Poe.

Tact: 'But Larry, it is YOU who is full of false conviction! It is YOU who is not accepting! It is I who am tough! ToughEST! Certainly moreso than you.' (returns voice to his own typical, deep tone) Just can that, if it's coming. You might as well replay your last two appearances, Poe, if you're planning on feeding us all that bit again. Face facts...when you lost the Television Title, you lost some of that 'tough' image of yours. Cuz it was only half there to begin with, Jarod. The tattooes, the piercings, the forked tongue...in short, the general physical damage you willingly do to yourself...outside the ring? It's no more painful than what you experience inside the ring, Jarod. And not to burst your fat bubble head, but...we ALL go through that pain. In one way or another, we've all gone through some pretty harsh pain. In the ring, we make sacrifices out of our bodies, and we give ourselves to wrestling. It's like a freaking credo by now, isn't it? You used to preach some of it pretty vocally yourself. (shakes head disparagingly) But not anymore....now you've become full of yourself, and think you're the one making great sacrifice...but it all ties together, doesn't it? No? Well, at Wired, I'll be there to gain great satisfaction in showing you, Jarod. I'll be there to present your problems to you, rather than wait for you to identify them. Cuz while the Kidd has a good approach...I think we can mesh enough to get some gratuitous thrashing of your sorry carcass in as well. And who knows? Maybe you'll improve some, too. But I won't get my hopes up, since it's not like you're about to accept all this, coming from me. But I'll be happy to play off your denial, so that after I tally a plus on my score with you at Riptide, I can tally one more positive mark, at Wired.

Tact turns and walks up the steps to the mini-bar. Fade out.

And on and on he goes

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Aug-08-03 AT 09:37 PM (EST)]It's been a long ride from Detroit as Jarod drove straight through some bad weather to finally arrive in Joliet, Illones.
