I had this thought...

To Chad and Dave, and whoever does the deciding on matches...

I had this idea a minute ago that I thought would help out the federation as a whole... perhaps revolutionize all of e-wrestling as we know it.

Now, I go to other competitive RP boards. They have a unique judging tactic...

After the winner of a session is revealed, they say WHY that person won.

Now follow me with this... following every card, a Match Summary is posted here in the OOC forum, possibly by Chad. This summary goes through a match by match breakdown, where, totally OOC, every match is discussed in terms of how the players roleplayed. The finer points of the roleplays are given, as well as the weaker points.

I've seen what this has done to some writers. People have grown EXPONENTIALLY with their work. If we did this sort of thing in GXW, I think we could get similar results. Cause at this point, when a person loses, we just get the assumption, "Hey, he did it 'better'."

But what makes roleplaying "better"? Couldn't we explain it a little more?

Here's an example...

Let's say two random guys, Mickey and Fernando, have a match. They do a lot of roleplaying. Following that, the match is posted between their respective characters, El Burro and Super Crazy Man (okay, originality's at a low at this time; sue me). Burro wins.

Following this, OOC, the owner discusses how he went with his decision. Let's say, Mickey had a lot of detail, but some typographical errors held him back. For example, in Roleplay X, datta datta datta... but in Roleplay Y, jabba jabba jab. Goes on to pick up specific lines an moments in roleplays that really stood out.

For Fernando, it would be a similar focus... only because in this situation, Fernando lost, the owner would be talking about the negative aspects. Perhaps there were a lot of continuity mistakes, contradictory statements, or maybe it could have had more to it, or maybe LESS to it. Maybe it went onto too many tangents. Who knows.

The result is, both handlers take this summary, put it into constructive criticism, and go on to work on those points. As a result, the GROW as writers.

Are you seeing what I'm seeing?

Tell me what you think.

Bad idea. That'd be basically giving away the promoter's favorite style and forcing everyone else to conform to that style in the hopes of winning. If you really want to know why you lost, just email or instant message the fed owners and ask for a critique instead of having this sort of dirty laundry aired out for all to see.

I was going to say something, but Jeff, you read my mind.

All of what Jeff just said plus...if the RPer is new....it's not really fair if you win and then rub it in his face.

After some discussions with Dave, I'd like to change one thing about this idea...

Instead of publicly putting it onto the OOC forum, it would be more of a private matter... where handlers are contacted through PMs or OOC.

I don't see how it makes everybody "conform" to one style. Every writer has their own unique style and sticks to it, but sometimes its lacking. It's a good way to inform people what they're doing RIGHT and what they're doing WRONG. It's not just a simple explanation to the loser...

Personally, I want to GROW as a writer, even if I win a match, and I think this tactic could help me.

It would also offend people. "Uh, you lost because you did this wrong and this wrong and this wrong..."

Why not let people develop their own style of RP instead of telling them what they did wrong based on YOUR style?

EDIT: Besides, there's no such thing as RPing wrong. You win some and you lose some. C'est la vie.

Jeff...

If anybody got offended, they don't belong in this game.

And there's a thing called CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. It's not, "Wrong, wrong, wrong", it's called, "You could try this, or you could use a little more this."

But who are we to tell people how to roleplay? Everyone has their own style, and telling people to fix things OUR way reeks of pomposity.

We're not telling them how to roleplay in a definitive sense, Jeff. We're giving them advice on how they can take their own style and improve on it.

Bro, I think what Jeff is trying to say that, everyone has there own style and that unless they ask for criticism or advice...who are we to screw with their methods of RP?

If something works, it works. If it doesn't, hey, it's that person's character, let them try things's out for themselves.

Achievement is best gained/felt when done by yourself.

You make a good point... but then, the Against side is coming from some of the more notable writers in FWrestling who could be considered "better" than others.

Most people don't ask why they lose matches because they're afraid of getting flamed to death for what some people might consider "complaining".

I spoke to Chad about this. So I feel like I can speak for him as well.

I do like the idea of giving feedback. I considered putting this sort of thing into action, but in a private way. I would never do this publically of course for obvious reasons....some already stated.

But even in private, I'm starting to think that most people just don't want unsolicited advice especially if they're on the losing end.

I would always be free to answer any questions that any of you have regarding your roleplay or regarding our view of it. Jeff is correct in that everyone has their own style, but at the same time we (Chad and I) have our ideas on what makes a good one. As the people booking the fed, that's just how it is. Of course I'd like to think we're pretty understanding about those who have less experience in FW. In fact, I think we've done a fairly good job of pushing newer talent into a position where they can grow as characters. I've given some advice when asked and done my best to help out.

I'd like to thank Ryan for his suggestion, because it's a good one. The essence of the suggestion is to help people get better, and that's commendable. I just think the preferred way is to keep it on a "you ask and we'll answer" basis.

Thanks guys.

- Dave
