Refining the focus.

* Fanatic RP for C06.

OORP: Sorry for the delay! Had a death in the family, and was doing things related to that over the weekend. Felt a little creatively stumped as a result, but I'm back now...

FADE IN…

We find ourselves inside a gym, somewhere in New York City. There are no weights in the room; a heavybag off in one corner, and a speedbag not too far from it; jump-ropes and batons hang on a wall; and some mats are laid under a rope that extends to the high ceiling. However, the only two people occupying the room are situated near a ring. One is the man of tactful methodology, himself, standing near a ringpost in a pair of black Puma workout pants, with gold stripes along the sides, and a royal blue sleeveless shirt. He takes a drink from a water bottle and watches his younger brother, sitting on the apron of the ring. Fanatic wears a pair of solid blue Pumas, with a red Under Armour shirt that covers his arms. His mask is blue with a red ‘infinity’ insignia etched across it.

Tact nods to his brother, who does not react and may not have noticed, and faces us with a thoughtful look.

LARRY TACT: “A new season, what does it mean? I guess some of you in the locker room will take it as a reboot for yourselves. Not having had the results that you desired in Season One, it’s a new chance to make your marks. A way to get yourselves back into title consideration. For those who missed out on the chance to be apart of the first season, it’s a time to show what you have… or, don‘t. There’s a different meaning for everyone, considering the way people finished last season, what they have set for themselves this season, and what they have going for themselves on the way in.”

“For us… the Tact Legacy looks strong. Fanatic didn’t make it entirely through BattleBrawl, but he was the only one who had that burden to bear this year. It was a unique way to go, and when it comes down to it, my brother could only gain from it. He didn’t need to win, but he got plenty of time in the ring, and unlike others who waste away their time thinking winning is everything… Fanatic understands that, to remain at the top, you need to make the best of all ring time. Every minute is spent further seasoning him towards the time when he will make good on the opportunity he already has…”

Tact points at Fanatic, who responds by shifting his weight and turning to stare in the center of the ring. As he moves, our view of the ring is cleared, and we see Tact was pointing at what sits there: the original New Era Championship belt, which Larry Tact won.

“…at that. “

Tact turns back to the camera, while Fanatic continues focusing on the belt.

“There is one focus for Fanatic, and that is the New Era Championship. There is nothing more important than claiming it for the Tact Legacy, once again. That is the precedent I have set in the past, and one my brother must meet in the future. But there’s more to it than just cashing in on an opportunity. There’s more strides to be made along the way, before we reach the climax.”

“And for us, this new season of New Era couldn’t begin with a better opponent. The First knows about the New Era Championship, because he stole it for himself last season… then… couldn’t bother to successfully defend it. Well, that’s how it goes when you play where you don’t belong, and with something you don‘t deserve. But First, my brother earned his opportunity at the New Era Championship, too. And while I credit you for doing what you had to in order to become Champion, then slept in the bed you made, the fact is you’ve returned to the pack. And the path back up isn’t going to be a nice straight line, especially once Fanatic knocks you down a peg. New Era doesn’t need to see a repeat performance of Act One. The next chapter calls for something more, something… Elite.”

He takes another sip of water and chuckles.

“It seems you like to gamble, First. That’s good, because you’re going to have to make several bets on what you think Fanatic will be doing, once you step inside the ring. I can guarantee you, there won’t be any sure thing to lay your chips down on. And with our focus on the New Era Championship this season, we can’t have a former Champion looking to return to that point at our expense. You simply can’t be part of the equation, not right now. But Fanatic is going to make sure you aren’t, personally, when he gives you a taste of the Craze, and cuts the thread on your first chance of getting back on the right path towards the Championship.”

He shrugs.

“Really, it isn’t all that different for Fanatic than BattleBrawl. He’s still in a match where he isn’t favored to win, and he’s only got ground to gain from it. Defeating First will give Fanatic a win over a former New Era Champion, and a man who has garnered high marks for his Season One performance. Winning will only further cement the fact that Fanatic is to be taken seriously, along with the top of the competition here in New Era of Wrestling. He will be one step closer to threatening for the New Era Championship.”

“You may have a return match banked for the Championship, First, but people want to know what you came out of BattleBrawl with. Because even if I prepared Fanatic to face the same man who gave Shawn Hart almost all he could handle at that premier event… as former Champions, you and I full well know that you won’t be feeling that same energy at Cyberstrike. You weren’t considered the Champion of anything by the fans, and even if you don’t give a damn about them, it doesn’t change that you wanted to beat Hart to legitimize that reign. Losing a Championship match, and not getting past that obstacle of beating the former Champion… it’s not an easy thing. And to feel no reservation the next match out would only mean you didn‘t think you‘d win in the first place. Well call me crazy, but I had the impression you believed you could beat Hart at BattleBrawl. You took the gamble of investing yourself in the match, and lost. It happens, and now you deal with the consequences.”

“Really, it’s nothing against you, First, but Fanatic is going to capitalize on what Shawn Hart started. We aren’t going to be the ones for you to get your bounce back on. We‘re going to be the ones to send you spiraling farther… farther… into the muddled mass of mediocrity, and let you dig yourself out this season.”

“See, I could have prepared Fanatic for the man who, without the aid of the element of surprise, gave Shawn Hart almost all he could handle… but I didn’t. Instead, I prepared him using someone who, without any surprise advantage, can straight up give Hart all he could handle, and then pushed him over the edge and defeated him. Don’t worry, though, I’m not preparing Fanatic to face Shawn Hart, this week. I’m getting him ready to top someone who couldn’t stop Hart. My brother is going to show you another way to break into your flaws, and rip opportunity out of your hands. Because this season, opportunity belongs in the hands of the Elite Enigma. “

“Bet on it.”

The shot focuses on Fanatic and the New Era Championship.

* The First RP for C06.

(FADEIN: The First sitting slumped in a chair, his face painted white with black smears streaking up and down his face, his hair is a mess of colors and his bangs now get down to near his eyes. First looks at the camera and smiles, his outfit consisting of black shorts and a black Derrick Rose jersey.)

FIRST: People tell me I’m a fake and a fraud, that I’m a poser. It makes me laugh, because I’m about the only person who’s honest with himself, I doubt anyone in the New ERA locker room is as comfortable in their skin as I am in mine. Yet I’m a product of focus groups and marketing research, testing out buzzwords and catchy slogans to pander to certain demographics. It is how those who seek to dismiss me without bothering to argue the facts choose to make their case.

It’s funny because I look at my opponent this week, and well, there’s a fraud, there is a fake if there ever was one. Fanatic you call yourself, what is a fanatic, it is one passionate in their belief, one devoted and dedicated to a cause and a mission…Yet you sit there in silence…A fanatic who’s mute, who does not speak of what his heart desires, what his goals are, what he dreams to make into a reality.

A fanatic would not let another man carry his message to the world a fanatic would grab the world by the collar and scream in its face what he needed them to hear. You are far from a fanatic. If you were not called one, I think the term would be the furthest thing from my mind as a way to describe you.

But fanatic sounds good, it sells, it’s intimidating. Then we have this ‘elite enigma’ tag…What is an elite enigma? Are you one of those really hard Sudoku puzzles? Can you even explain to me what the hell that means?

I mean, who the hell gave you this nickname and why would you think it applies to you? You know what an enigma is? It’s something people can’t figure out, but wrestlers, we’re easy to figure out, we talk trash, or in your case have your brother talk trash for you, then we go out and beat each other up, and the process repeats itself countless times until finally one day you end up with a big shiny belt that’s a symbol that you’re a really rough and tumble kind of guy and you’re not to be trifled with.

And with you sitting there longingly staring at a belt that your brother once held, well, your motives are pretty plain to see, you want to climb to the heights I’ve already gone to, you want to be the man in this company…Well Fanatic, I’m sorry to tell you, but it’s not happening on my watch, because belt or no belt, I am still the man here. I, just like D-Rose here (Holds up jersey) am the MVP.

That means I get to do whatever I want, I get to call the shots, you say I don’t belong? (Smiles) That’s some tough talk to try to bolster your charity case of a brother’s confidence.

You want the truth Larry? This match is meaningless…I’ve got my banked shot already, so does Fanatic….A win here for me does nothing for me at all, beating your brother wouldn’t rank in the top 100 achievements of my wrestling career, maybe not even the top thousand.

You know what I want? Chaos, disorder, anarchy. That’s how I make my mark. You want a belt…I want to burn the whole company down…Fanatic, I know Larry’s talking to you about winning matches and dominating and being all bad ass, but that doesn’t get anyone anywhere, it’s a hamster wheel that never stops till you’re broken down and defeated.

You have to make an impact, you have to put the world on notice, stand the world on its ear. You want to do something Fanatic? Join me…We might have to work on a ring name and nickname that fit you, that really show the world who and what you are, but I’ll get you to the promised land a lot faster then your dear brother will…

I’ve been around a long time Fanatic, I know how things work, I can get you what you want…Let’s tear down this false reality around, and build towards your greater glory…

Think about it…

I just have one question for you Fanatic?

What do you want?
