SAMUEL TIBERIUS TURNER II v. HENRY KEYES
It took a little time to find it, but this song is better for Big Sam, good on you Chris for finding a tune that you're into for your character... Straight HAWS fight start to finish, nothing fancy, just two big dudes beating the tar out of each other... The false double count out and then having that be the finish later on is a good teasing tactic, well played... Also, I'm trying to think, but I'm sure Angus has seen more than three gingers in wrestling, unless you only mean DEFIANCE (Sam, Keyes, MLM, I'm sure there's at least one more)... Sam cussing like a fiend, it's so odd to me, only because I still have remnants of his good ol' boy past, hah... Good stuff, gents.

DID YOU LOSE YOUR KEYES?
Sam full of the haterade for Keyes... Daaaaaag, Holocaust smack from Big Sam, that's some bitter haterade right there, haha... I would like to suggest mixing up the cussing, don't just use the many varieties of fuck, like Sam could have said "He's a god damn dick licker!" (etc, etc)... A nice brawl here at the end to wet the ol' appetite for a big paperview rematch.

ON THE SECOND DAY...
It gets this from A to B to the P P V... Now lets see Aaron write the match for AFTERSHOCK since he left Craig hanging to handle everything else, hah...

SOHER - FRANK HOLIDAY (c) v. ALECZANDER
Angus displaying some serious gayterade for Alecz' muscles, haaaaah... The commentary through this whole match is making it so fun to read with Angus' constant shilling for Alecz, and these two parts...

Aleczander has ensured throughout this match that Holiday doesn’t get much momentum going and it has worked out well for him.

Angus:
Address him like the champion he is. And I don’t mean World Trios Champion.

DDK:
He hasn’t won yet, Angus.

Angus:
I don’t get your point.

I’m pretty positive that David is sitting back there, wondering how he can get out of this match with Aleczander.

DDK:
Aleczander hasn’t won yet!

Angus:
I know. I’m as sad as you are about that. Time for things to change.

...slip up there, Angus only ever calls Dusty "Mayberry", but that's cool, I know CRAG wrote this last minute and running his brain piece dry, hah... Oh man, this line... THIS LINE!...

Listen, I think we need a rule change. A two count is good enough. Just for this match though. And any other match I deem necessary.

...HAAAAAAAAH, YUSS! I was waiting for Billy to go ape on Junior... NEW PAPERVIEW MATCH, GAIZ! BILLY vs. JUNIOR! BEULAH vs. FONZIE STYLE!... (ahem)... Really good back and forth action, but I'm gonna be honest, I was hooked for the commentary gold on this one... Also, I think when the fans chant for Holiday it should be FRANKIE instead of FRANK, it flows better.

LIVE FROM THE PLEASURE DOME
Solid setup for what's going down in the near future... The Pleasure Dome, hah, sounds about right. I would have had something with Mushi looking at one of the man-slaves, who maybe eyes the God-Beast a little too much and be all like "Osu?!" (like the fuck you looking at, fruitcake?!).

DAVID NOBLE v. MARY-LYNN MAYWEATHER
Hurr durr on the entrance details... How can Dave be accompanied by MLM if she's already in the ring? FAIL CRAG! FAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIL!... Dig MLM trying to draw the fight out of Noble, then even when David starts going with it, he stops out of concern... Noble definitely does not come out looking better after this match, MLM gets some serious shine though... Regardless, Holiday vs Noble is gonna be fun, and this match clearly sets Noble up to be a pretty big underdog going in.

FRIENDLY CONTEST
CURTIS PENN TIME!... Jake Donovan is a super clean babyface, he wouldn't cuss like this, because of the kids... Curtis Penning himself into a slate of opponents upon his recovery, hah.

FIST of DEFIANCE - EUGENE DEWEY (c) v. JONNY BOOYA v. ALCEO DENTARI
BOOM! No notes, I read it straight through, outstanding. The only thing missing from this match is a run where the two heels work over the babyface, and it wasn’t necessary. Jonny Booya loses in a way that you would expect, probably because Angus admitted he just did something awesome and it punched reality in the gut long enough for Euge to score with the Shoryuken. Really good match, start to finish.

AIGHT FIGHTS ON BITCH!
Curtis Penn don't give no fucks about 38 percent, he's got two jabronies to school... For the people, of course, haha.

THREE GUYS, TWO GIRLS, ONE TITLE BELT
Noble having some self doubt, then Frank shows up to Frank-it-up and, of course he says something that finally wakes Noble up, haaaah... Ooooh fuckshit, this gets real raw the further it goes... Frank's monologue about how Noble doesn't have a chance shows that someday, Holiday has the potential to be a super douche-bro heel, I'M NOT SAYING TURN HEEL THOUGH, STOP IT!... Oh ho ho, and here comes Dante to stir the pot some more... Mushi gonna kill mothafuckas now that he's got something to aim for, w00t.

DEF WORLD TITLE - DUSTY GRIFFITH v. DAN RYAN
I wrote this.

FUCK YOU, BECAUSE I SAID SO!
I wrote the end of this.

I wrote in all the cussing, right before my laptop took a nose dive, i've toyed with it before, and then made jake apologize for it, he won't be apologizing this time, I'm just playing with a few things with him.

THE RUN-DOWN
Good stuff, does its job, gets us ready for tonight's shenanigans.

SAMUEL TIBERIUS TURNER II vs HENRY KEYES
STT2's image makeover is yielding huge benefits for this character and this feud with Keyes (and his BELL CLAP!) feels like so damn much fun. Anytime you put a couple of angry guys in the ring and it turns into a dirty, ugly, physical battle, I'm all in. Loved this.

DID YOU LOSE YOUR KEYES?
...And they just keep on going after the match! We set up the PPV rematch here which is awesome. Poor Lance Warner though, what did he ever do to deserve the BELL CLAP!?

ON THE SECOND DAY...
Malachi does another religious zealot promo (I'm a sucker for these BTW) and makes a match with possible NPC Ishimaru Masato? I don't know if Aaron is back and contributing again, but either way, at least this is getting a resolution on PPV.

SOUTHERN HERITAGE TITLE: FRANK HOLIDAY vs ALECZANDER
Craig wrote about 98% of this, and I wrote the entrances. Thanks a bunch for covering mine and Seth's asses this time out. I thought it was a great match (like it wouldn't be great with Craig on duty!), did well at calling back to the Team HOSS/TexMex Holiday feud from... gosh, has it been over a year? And also tying in the thread about the PPV match vs. David Noble. Frank gets the duke and a boost of momentum as he heads into a HUGE defense at Aftershock.

LIVE FROM THE PLEASURE DOME
"Pleasure Dome"... perfect! I love the idea that Kelly Evans transformed her office space into a male harem for her own indulgence. Mushi gets to shed his Rodney Dangerfield image and finally gets some respect as he's granted the next SoHer Title shot... already some interesting possibilities with this. BattleMania shout-out! Good luck to the DEFIANCE contingent!

DAVID NOBLE vs MARY-LYNN MAYWEATHER
Very uncomfortable situation for Noble, having to wrestle his sweetheart Mary-Lynn (while presumably having a rock hard erection the whole time). I liked MLM refusing to allow Noble to take it easy on her (hiyo) and getting physically aggressive when he was reluctant to make a move (hiyo). I thought her character benefited quite a bit from this competitive portrayal. And an interesting finish as Noble won with a small package, mirroring how he beat Holiday a couple of shows ago -- a pinfall, but not necessarily a decisive one. Looks like Noble still has some misgivings as he heads into Aftershock.

FRIENDLY CONTEST
Curtis Penn just can't stop being an asshole, even when he's injured. Maybe ESPECIALLY because he's injured. It's great. Jake Donovan calling his childish ass out... Troy Matthews lining up to smack this guy down... both of them frustrated because Penn's out of action. All kinds of goodness here.

FIST OF DEFIANCE: EUGENE DEWEY vs JOHNNY BOOYA vs ALCEO DENTARI
Really great match here! I always get a kick out of Dentari's diminutive height actually factoring into how things play out, such as being able to duck clotheslines, and being lifted off the ground while locked in submission holds. I'll disagree with James about the match missing a two-on-one spot with Booya and Alceo ganging up on Eugene; the heels hate each other as much as they hate the babyface, so it makes sense that they wouldn't team up, even just in the moment. And loved the finish with Eugene scoring with the Shoryuken, great description of Booya crumpling as he gets hit.

AIGHT, FIGHT'S ON BITCH!
Curtis Penn finally mans up in spite of his crippling wrist injury, but this segment wins because of the TOUT shout-out! LOL!

THREE GUYS, TWO GIRLS, ONE TITLE BELT
I wrote this with Craig and Rob. Shit got real here. Incidentally, if you thought Noble and Holiday ended their war of words when Mushi interrupted, go check Twitter -- those guys never fucking let it go.

DEFIANCE WORLD TITLE: DUSTY GRIFFITH vs DAN RYAN
BECAUSE FUCK YOU, I SAID SO!
Fantastic match with a clusterfuck ending when half the locker room runs in! So it's probably not a huge secret that much of the booking over the course of this arc, including having a FIST of DEFIANCE title match AND a rare World Title match on the go-home show before a PPV, was originally intended to help set up WarGames. And then we cancelled WarGames, but we didn't cancel the booking, and we still needed something for everyone to do at the PPV. So instead there's a World Trios Title match at Aftershock, and why not. Lindsay Troy finally gets to tag up with in-law Dan Ryan (justified because that needed to pay off in some way), and FDJ because you need a third partner, versus Team HOSS in what one hopes will be a satisfying blowoff. Not the most neat and tidy booking but it gets the job done.

Of course the big surprise is what Kelly Evans had in store for the two big champs who were, oddly enough, left with no one to face... except each other. VERY intriguing title vs. title match set up between Dusty Griffith and Eugene Dewey. Can't wait to see how this plays out.

OTHER THOUGHTS
I want to give an honorable mention to the DEFtv #47 preview, which I thought was really well-written and fun to read. A big game night needed big hype and this was tremendous.

What did we do right?

There's always value in aiding first-time "viewers" get the gist of storylines/angles/etc., especially when it's the go-home show for a PPV. This was definitely one of those kinds of shows, which was especially helpful to me as someone coming into the fed.

What did we do wrong?

Can't think of anything specific here, but I'm the kind of guy that reads through stuff more than once. If I spot something on the second go-around, I'll let you know ;)

Top Face of the Night?

Gotta admit, as this is new to me I'm going off of crowd reaction. I get the impression that Eugene Dewey takes the spot this show.

Top Heel of the Night?

On the same premise, I'm gonna go with either Dan Ryan or Kelly Evans.

On the Bubble / Who is about to break out?

Not sure on this one. Will get back to you.

Favorite Quotes?

All the HOSS references from Angus.

Mark-Out Moments?

Big moment seeing the title vs title match announced. It's not often a match like this gets announced so close to the PPV, but here it works well considering the circumstances.

How was the overall reading experience?

This show did a great job helping establish the feuds/angles/etc. going into the PPV, especially as it relates to the main event. As a "fan" viewing, I got a good idea of the layout of everything. As someone coming into the fed, I got a good feel for how everything works within a show. (if that makes sense, lol)

The Rundown: As always, a good insight as to what is happening in the land of DEFIANCE. I wish I had a rundown when I started each day at the job. Would make my life that much easier.

STT vs. Henry Keyes: Really solid opening match! When they went to the outside the first time, I thought it was going to end in a countout. When they got back in the ring, I was rather surprised. Of course, the match did eventually end in a countout and the brawl between the two will continue. Just a brutal match through and through except… NO BELL CLAP! WHAT’S UP WITH DAT?

Did You Lose Your Keyes: Oof, STT is pissed. Laying down the insults like its a 6th grade ‘Yo Mama’ jokes contest! Then Keyes comes up and BELL CLAPS! Lance Warner. Why? For shits and giggles? Oh well. STT manages to not get BELL CLAPPED! which sucks. More BELL CLAPS! for everyone. And I think when people write BELL CLAP! that it should be written BELL CLAP! every time. STT vs. Keyes at AfterShock in a No DQ, Falls Count Anywhere match? Shit. Talk about a physical one.

On The Second Day: Wrote this…

Holiday vs. Aleczander: Wrote this with KEN!

Live from the Pleasure Dome: Shit. Mushi is coming for the SoHer championship? This shit is just getting started.

Noble vs. MLM: Wrote this…

Friendly Contest: Loving Penn injured. Not because he isn’t wrestling, but because he has been pure gold. I was thinking we would see Penn vs. Matthews vs. Donovan at AfterShock, but it doesn’t look to be the case. Oh well, got my copy of Curtis Penn’s Greatest Matches Vol. 2.

Dewey vs. Booya vs. Alceo: Really solid match through and through! Love triple threat matches and this one was good through and through. Great spots, back and forth action, though I couldn’t imagine Dewey losing here and he didn’t. You have to imagine that Dewey walking out of here the champion is a great sign. Just… now what? Dewey vs. Booya at the PPV? He doesn’t have a match now.

Aight, Fight’s On Bitch!: Well then, Penn shows back up! And with his recovery down to 38%, he is… going to fight? Hm...

Three Guys, Two Girls, One Title Belt: Wrote this with Ken and Rob. Oh shit is just about to get fun, everyone :)

Griffith vs. Ryan: James, hats off to you sir. This was one hell of a match and my MOTN nominee. Just really went all out on it and to think, this is one of your smaller matches! Still, Ryan came off as the monster that he is and Dusty kept giving it his all. Truly an awesome match and I would like to see Dusty vs. Ryan II. Make it happen! And then HOSS comes out, all hell breaks loose. Great show errbod— um, what?

Because Fuck You, I Said So!: So heading into this moment, we had one title match booked for AfterShock [Holiday vs. Noble] with none of the other titles up for grabs. Well that changed fast. Troy/Ryan/FDJ vs. Team HOSS for the Trios Championships? Oh yeah. And the titular line being used from KE, I could imagine her literally screaming her fucking mouth off. Man, that’s going to be a great match. Great show toni— WHAT?!

That main event. Damn. Shit is going to be getting crazy in DEF.

Awesome show… and now there is AfterShock. Wonder what we’re going to do to top this. Heh heh heh.
