Here we go again

(FADEIN... on the bar. Literally, the bar. There's the fruit bin just out of sight and a damp rag fairly close.

It's where I go in between road trips, because...

No, I'm not going to say it.

Cheers.

Anyways, in addition to my half - empty pint glass, there's also a copy of the PWC Major Tournament brackets, with "IMPULSE vs. HIGH FLYER" circled.

IN PEN.

Is that significant?

I'll let the philosophers decide......)

"Statistically, I had a twenty percent chance of being in the first round with someone I had some form of previous history with. Statistically, I had a twenty percent chance of saying to my first round opponent, 'Here we go again.'"

Technically.

"Of course, can you really count Steven Shane? We've crossed paths once before, in the Empire, in the midst of a three team tag match. Other than ourselves, there were three additional opponents to consider. Our interaction was pretty much limited to Shane getting the pin after a four on one mugging."

Not to disrespect Steven Shane - he's still holding that tag belt, after all.

"Cameron Cruise? We've never wrestled one on one. It's always been part of a group outing, either the JTP Invitational at Wrestlestock 2, or the six way Sears Tower match, or the triple threat where Legion physically removed Varga and I got my first official victory."

And of course, All the President's Men.

"So that leaves Jack Harmen."

High Flyer.

The Neighborhood Lunatic.

Fakepulse.

"And this makes round seven for us."

Of all the brackets in all the world...

"Maybe it's karma. Maybe the gods of tournament brackets decided that you and I were destined to face off in the first round to make it fair for everyone else. After all, I can win this tournament, and do so decisively."

"So can you."

"Who can figure your style? Who can figure mine?"

Me. And you.

"I know you well enough to defeat you, Jack - and you, me."

Other than Steven Shane and Cameron Cruise, everyone else in this tournament is a mystery. And I know you well enough to make up for it.

"It's cosmic irony that we're facing off in the first round, Jack... too bad we can't cap this tournament off in the finals."

We'll have to settle for stealing the show from the start.
