This Morning
[FADE IN. A studio, two beige sofa's with some plants surrounding them, and windows behind looking out over the river Mersey, Liverpool, England. Two presenters, Richard Harris (dressed in a red suit, purple shirt and horrible tie) and Carole Murphy (dressed in a white suit) are sitting on one of the sofa's as the camera pans in for a close up]
RH: Welcome back. Next, we have a special treat for all the wrestling fans out there.
CM: That's right, Richard. Today we have with us in the studio a man who hasn't been wrestling for long, but who's certainly made a name for himself in MCW, Empire Pro and the NWL. He made it to the final of MCW's tournament, the second round of Empire's heavyweight tournament, is in the NWL Wrestling League Series, and at the first Empire Pay Per View he challenges Adam Benjamin for the Empire Pro Intercontinental title. Please welcome into the studio Karl Brown.
[The camera pulls back as Karl enters the shot from the right, dressed in blue jeans and a white Empire Pro t-shirt, his hair swept back. He shakes hands with both Richard and Carole, before sitting down on the unnoccupied sofa]
RH: Welcome Karl.
Karl: Hi Richard, Carole.
CM: Karl, a lot of the viewers might not know much about you. Please, tell us a little about yourself.
Karl: I've been wrestling for a few months, and as you said Carole, I've done a lot considering the time I've been in-ring. I started training three years ago, doing some basic training here in England, down in Portsmouth, before getting a flight to Japan, where I trained under some quite strict trainers. I was at university at the time, so I had to keep coming back to England during term time, so I'd train mainly during holidays, flying out to Japan and Canada. I got my degree last July, and have been wrestling properly since around October or November when I joined MCW. I signed to Empire shortly before MCW closed, and have since signed with the NWL, where I've defeated Hacker and Canada's Hero to make it to a five man round robin for the main title. In Empire, I've faced Mike Diamond, Christian Sands, who I also faced in MCW, Jonathan Marx and Troy Douglas.
RH: You've faced Adam Benjamin before, am I right?
Karl: Yes, I faced him in the final of the tournament to decide MCW's heavyweight champion. A little odd since I'm techically classed as a lightweight, only being about two hundred eleven pounds [laughs]. But, yeah, I faced Adam in the Mayhem Mountain match.
CM: We can have a look at some of that.
[CUT TO: Shots from MCW's Mayhem Mountain match between Brown and Benjamin]
TK: OH MY - BROWN JUST SUPLEXED BENJAMIN INTO THE BARBED WIRE!!!
BF: THIS MATCH IS INSANE!!! BOTH OF THESE GUYS SHOULD BE HALF DEAD BY NOW!!!
(Benjamin doesn't even cry out in pain with the impact. Rather, his eyes seem to glaze over, and he slumps down to the floor in a bloody mess. Brown lies on the floor for a moment longer, wearied from his own blood loss. Finally, he pulls himself up and begins the painstaking process of scaling the final rope.)
[scene change]
(Benjamin pulls himself onto the roof of Mayhem Mountain with an audible groan. Dripping blood, he reaches down and pulls something up after him: a Singapore cane. By now, Brown has climbed out of arms' reach. However, the Singapore cane reacher just fine - as Benjamin proves as he WAILS Brown in the back with it, stunning him and stopping his climb!)
TK: CANE TO THE BACK!!! BENJAMIN STOPPED BROWN IN HIS TRACKS!!!
DM: He's going up!
(As Brown tries to recover, Benjamin grabs the second rope and begins to climb slowly towards the title. Within twenty seconds, he's about twelve feet up the rope. However, Brown finally regains his senses and starts creeping up rapidly. Growling, Benjamin shifts his grip to two legs and one hand, swinging the Singapore cane at Brown with his free hand.)
(And Brown GRABS the cane in his own hand.)
TK: OH MY!!!
BF: BROWN GRABBED THE CANE!!!
DM: NO!!!
TK: THIS IS DOWN TO THE WIRE!!! THEY'RE BOTH FIGHTING OVER THE CANE!!!
(With a sudden surge of strength, Brown wrenches the cane out of Benjamin's grip; however, his hand slips thanks to the slick blood coating it, causing him to slide down a few feet. He shifts his grip and prepares to strike with the cane. However, Benjamin makes his move. He leaps off his rope towards Brown's, grabbing it in mid-jump; however, as he jumps to Brown's rope, he angles in just right so that his knee SMASHES Brown in the face!)
TK: OH MY GOD!!! SHINING WIZARD!!! ROPE TO ROPE - Oh no... Brown's gonna -
(His grip weakened by the impact of the Shining Wizard, Karl Brown loses his grip on the rope. As if in slow motion, he drops off the rope... and CRASHES through the plywood ceiling of the Mayhem Mountain, landing in a limp pile on the floor inside the third cell!)
TK: GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!!! GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!!! I CAN'T - HE'S BROKEN IN HALF!!!
BF: OH MY -
[CUT TO studio again]
RH: Ouch....
Karl: [laughing to himself] Yeah, that was a good match. Weird, too, since Benjamin and I are known for our technical styles, yet resorted to some pretty, erm, hardcore action in that one.
CM: What was it like, inside that cell?
Karl: Well, the first part was fine, just a standard cage. The second one had some weapons, and we were both already tired in that one. The third was the one you saw me throw Adam into it, barbed wire with weapons. The top had a rope to climb, and you saw what happened. It hurt like anything for days afterwards.
RH: I'll bet. What was going through your mind?
Karl: Well, right up till I fell through the top, I kept thinking to myself that I could do it. When I went through the top, I managed to glimpse at Adam as he reached for the belt before I passed out. Next thing I knew I was in the hospital. I still have no idea how they got me out of there [laughs again]
RH: Moving on, if I may, which promotion you've been in is the best?
Karl: They've all been good for different reasons. MCW before it closed was getting quite a bit of attention, but most of the roster didn't promote their matches, which was a shame. Empire's got a good product and is really getting noticed, with people commenting on the matches quite favourably, and the place is quite unpredictable too. NWL is starting slower than Empire did, but at the same time, it has the depth in talent to do really well. I wouldn't say any of them are better than any of the others.
CM: Now, we've got some callers on the line. First is Tom from Shrivenham. Hello Tom?
[over the phone]Tom: Hi Richard, Hi Carole, Hi Karl.
Karl: Hello Tom.
Tom: Karl, I was wondering, who did you look up to in wrestling growing up?
Karl: Well, that's an easy one. I used to watch quite a bit of US wrestling, and at first it was people like Brian Pillman, Ricky Steamboat, Rick Rude and Stunning Steve Austin. I caught some Japanese action too, so you can add Jushin Lyger to that list. As the years went by, I caught some older US PPV's, with the likes of Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Ted DiBiase, Tito Santana and Jake Roberts, so really you can list all of those. I model my style more on Lyger, Pillman, the Harts and DiBiase, but I picked up bits and pieces from all of them.
CM: OK, Tom, that answer your question?
Tom: Yeah. Thanks Karl
Karl: Any time, Tom.
RH: OK, next up is Erika from Bogner Regis. Hello Erika
[over the phone]Erika: Hi everyone. Karl, I was wondering how you came up with the idea for your Dragon's Bite finisher?
Karl: Hi Erika. The Dragon's Bite came about watching someone called Gangrel. He used an implant DDT as his finisher. I remembered that one match I was in whilst training, and thought about how to improve it. I like to use the Dragonsleeper, so I thought about using that position as an implant DDT, dropping them on their head. So, I tried it out, it worked, and some of the trainers told me it looked like it would be successful, so I kept it.
Erika: Cool. Thanks Karl.
RH: OK, we've got time for one more caller, and it's Chris from Southwell. Hello Chris?
[over the phone]Chris: Hello Richard, Carole, Hi Karl. I'm a huge Empire fan, and was wondering what your thoughts were on Rocko's attack last Aggression?
Karl: Well, I don't really know what to make of it. He's upset he lost in the main tournament, and if you saw his promo, it was as if his whole world had ended. I've heard backstage rumours saying somethings not right with him personally right now, but I haven't been able to talk to him for a while, so I can't say what it is. As for him attacking Troy and myself, when he did that, he lost a lot of respect. I don't really care what his reasons are, he had the chance to compete in the match and no-showed. Now, maybe he was giving me the win he used to say I deserved against him in MCW, or maybe Troy annoyed him somehow, or maybe Rocko's just lost the plot completely. That one wouldn't suprise me, sicne he seems to have something about name dropping Sands and his entire wrestling belief seems to be him winning titles. If he wants to set foot in the ring with me somewhere down the road, I have no problem, as long as he wrestles honourably like he used to claim. But I'll tell you this, Rocko's attack now doesn't mean too much to me. Yes, it's unfortunate Troy and I couldn't work out the victor on the night ourselves, and I offer a rematch to Troy somewhere down the line. But if Rocko thinks he can get a straight title shot if I beat Benjamin just because he hit me with a chair, he's got another thing coming.
Chris: Thanks. Bye.
RH: OK, last question Karl. We all know you have a small history with Adam Benjamin, and at Black Dawn you're facing him for the IC title. What are your thoughts going in to that one?
Karl: The same as any match. I'm going to be training on the basis that Adam's a hundred times better than I am in every way, and I'm going to push myself to go beyond the level I currently am. The title's not all that important to me, so much as proving to myself that I can go beyond my limits. I've done it before, and hopefully against Adam I'll do it again.
CM: Thank you Karl. Next up, we have Jules with the weather, and we'll be back after the break.
[FADE OUT to some corny musak]
