    Re: Legends 17 - Thoughts

Enjoyed the VALENTINE/DUSK vs BLITZKRIEG FUNK match. I wasn't quite sure why the match was taking place but I thought it complimented the earlier TROY/DUSK segment nicely - it just would've been good to see more of a response from DUSK to TROY's intervention. I'm guessing that because the focus was on the reunion of VALENTINE and her belt that DUSK took a backseat in the situation, which was a shame.

It was good to see the frustration in KAUS. It's what separated him from REYN (because the KAUS segment followed the REYN match, I found myself immediately comparing the two). I'm hoping that will be something that's utilised in the upcoming weeks as added depth to the character - kind of a trying to prove to himself as much as the fans that he's as good as he's spouting.

The MATTOCK/RYANN segment got my attention. I've not read anything previous to this event (which may dilute some of my points, haha) but it was still very involving. I thought the manipulative/scheming side to DERECHO offered much more for the character than the first segment did. Will be interesting to see where that goes for every character involved.

The KEATON, TURK/RYAN and DALEY altercation was decent. KEATON's offer seemed quite abrupt as the whole TURK/RYAN and DALEY thing seemed relatively fresh. Nonetheless, it was still an enjoyable and intriguing encounter.

WINTERTON's segment was a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed her pomp and ludicrously self-entitled attitude. I thought it would've been a great piece to follow VALENTINE's reunion with her belt.

    Top Face of the Night?

TROY, for an entertaining back-and-forth with DUSK and ensuring PERSEPHONE's interference wasn't costly; or HARMEN, for the story that played out in the Main Event and generally putting up with DAVIS.

    Top Heel of the Night?

JACOBS. Even though he was without a match, I thought the curiosity surrounding his 'board connection', his demeaning/dismissive attitude towards RIKTOR and his general arrogance made him a stand-out. Also, I'm looking forward to see how his relationship with GEIST progresses - and what part Natalia plays.

KAUS and DERECHO deserve honourable mentions too. Not simply because of their heelish antics but because of the extra depth that certain parts of their 'Legends stories' added to their characters.

Who is about to break out?

Going to go with KAUS for aforementioned reasons and WINTERTON. The 'Bombshells' division looks to be an entertaining one with the variety of different characters in there and WINTERTON definitely bolsters it.

    Mark-out Moments?

The move that won VIAGRA the championships back - and the chaos that followed. 'Burn it down'. Excellent.

There were a few moments that lead to questions but as a new reader I'm just going to wait and see what happens. And I look forward to it.

Hope I haven't stepped on any toes here. I stumbled back upon all this and thought I'd try and commit to some consistent reading.

    Re: Legends 17 - Thoughts

    Here's my feedback on L17

That Derecho guy is really something. His handler must be a god among insects or something! =P

    Okay.. real feedback time.

I liked the Lindsay Troy segment dealing with the whole Underground Championship curse. It adds to the history and mystique of the title and really helps set it apart from the other belts.

Suicide got a nice reaction as the NXT... er LoC crowd was fired up for his return. Cool little setup with Providence.

Daryn Thompson doesn't get paid by the hour, doesn't she? The fact that Paisley took a punch better than Geno Smith was pure genius. Fuck the Jets... and if they're your team... well... fuck the Jets. Paisley taps out and it makes Daryn Thompson look like Roman Reigns... strong. A bit on the short side, but it's to sell Thompson's dominant side which came through nicely

I loved this line: “That hallway is goddamn around every corner in this place unless you’re looking for it.” Especially since most of my backstage segments feature turning a corner and going down a hallway LOL. Well played, Billy. Well played. VJV has the title in the back of her mind and she obviously wants to get it back from Persephone. Perhaps this will play into her match later tonight as it's foreshadowed here. Nice little setup segment there, Chipper!

That is some anime-level villain shit that Reyn spouted off... and I love it. focusing on how lives are meaningless, detailing his history in jOlt (which he went undefeated, by the way). It was a cool introduction, you got a feel for what Reyn is about, and you also get to see him in action because El Tigre Verde has answered the call!

The match itself showed some great action as you would except from the Flyweight Division. Alex Reyn gets the win here and remains undefeated in the jOlt/LoC Universe. Nice quick little match for the debut which got Reyn over and selling his character.

So Kaus is slightly vexed that Kiru cost him a chance at "becoming the Legacy Championship." I'd be mad, too if my partner prevented me from being turned into a title that can be work snugly around men's oiled up waists... I mean WHAT? *AHEM* The heel turn is centered around the old adage of being held back by my partner.. can't become the championship because I'm not an inanimate object because of my partner... it's a time-honored traditional way to break up a tag team and turn a character heel (although we all know the reason why Seth did it.. those sexy Natural Athlete bastards!). While a bit generic in the reasoning, the persona sold the turn. I like the newfound attitude of Kaus and I'm interested to see where it goes. Hopefully one day he can be Petey Williams and become the championship.

A fun segment from Team VIAGRA and of course, how can you not have a VIAGRA segment without one of them yelling PENIS. You just can't. Gets the upcoming tag title match set up nicely, too.

A Lights Out superkick followed by LIGHTS OUT! My GOD SEBASTIAN SAJE IS IN LOC... er no he's not. The wannabe champion, Persephone, has arrived. It was predictable that she would show up, but Lindsay Troy came out and had something to say about it with a lariat! The ending felt anti-climatic, though. You had this action on the outside between Troy and Persephone and VJV just turns around and is like. "Oh..." then BAM.. Raise the Alarm and it's over. Would have worked a little better if Hans didn't immediately eat the finisher. Should have had tried to steal a win there, but it still works in the end.

Isn't that cute, SVJ went and got himself a boyfriend! I didn't know he was into hulking German men, but now we know! But in seriousness, this establishes that the Legacy Champion has some muscle to protect him and minus the German part, it reminds me of Shawn Michaels and Diesel. I'm liking this combination even though you need Google Translate for Geist's lines.. but it's fine.. that's the character.

Providence found the hallway VJV didn't. (Sorry, had to go there). Monte Burns comes across an old friend and doesn't like the change he sees in Providence. Nice little history reminder of the two and it sells Providence's persona to boot. Good segment here from Jarrod

After the previous segment, a bit predictable that KAUS would win here. Honestly, I would have booked this as a loss by a flash pin with KAUS kicking out immediately after. KAUS would try to attack Cordova and Cordova would escape. KAUS could then yell about Cordova and everyone else being a coward when he himself just pulled a cowardly act of trying to attack Cordova from behind. Would have been an ironic heel moment to maybe get the cowards thing over a bit more. Plus the loss would have been unpredictable since everyone who turns heel immediately is expected to win their match against the face opponent that night. There was nothing wrong with this match or the outcome so don't take this as negative feedback.. just offering up a different perspective. It's the booker in me.. what can I say?

    Amber needs a hug...

WHOA! KAUS vs Cordova again!?? But this time KAUS looks like Adam Lazarus and HOLY SHIT! Turk was under the mask all the time! Turk being able to pull off looking like a mexican all these years is worthy of wrestler of the millennium... either that or Dan pulled a me and forgot to change the match title after copying/pasting it. Now.. as for the match itself... In this day and age, I don't know why the crowd would erupt in a fed name chant over a Shooting Star Press. Sadly, a move that was once special, is as common as a headlock. The finish was great.. I mean... it was a realistic finish. If you're on the ground getting pounded dead in the face with heavy punches... sooner or later you're going to beg for mercy or say goodnight to the world for a little while. It just make Turk look like a legit badass. I liked it.

In the follow up segment, I like the Lesnar approach of Turk just standing there and letting Maryjane do the talking. Then we get David Mack and Christian Keaton. After the words said to Turk about just being some midcard title holder and saying he's not the old monster anymore.. I'm surprised these two didn't end up as Turk food right then and there, but I'm sure that time is coming soon enough.

It's Sarah fucking Winterton!! All you little harlots bow down before the TRUE Queen! Seth hasn't missed a beat with this character and I'm happy to see her in LoC!

Team VIAGRA and The Nation close out the show. Fresh off of winning the tag team titles, it was only natural to see The Nation retai.... Holy hell they got Vaudevillained! Penance and The Nation rip apart the ring Nexus style to end the show. Yep.. they're pissed. This is far from over.. nice little "to be continued" match to end the show on, wrestling-wise.

We end the show on a bit of mystery. Who was driving the white hummer? Who was the man at the airport that Hogan and Bischoff were going to pick up? Who was DDP's benefactor and most importantly... who was in the SUV Limo that Scott Riktor didn't want Vince Jacobs to know about? Questions Questions Questions! But we get a tag match out of it next week. Burns and Billows versus Jacobs and Providence. Should be an awesome match that puts feud partners, former and current together. Wonder if Derecho will have anything to say about this match.... hmm... I wonder.

All in all, good post-PPV show. Lots of stuff beginning which is what you see at the start of an arc.. some stuff marching on. I'd give this show a solid B+ as nothing was really "blow me away", but nothing was really bad at all.
